Im looking around the for sale forums here. What are the types of transponders that will work at our track? Also the rules don't specify and I don't have my car on hand but what "size" meaning physical, cell does the CRC xti fit? It seems like it uses a shorter cell then the regular size that im use to seeing in TC.

Also, reading the rules regarding the VTA class, it mentions that "Our track deviates from those rules in the respect of motor size (we run 25.5)". Does this mean any 25.5 motor or are we still talking about the Novak Ballistic?

It looks like our "Rules" page hasn't been updated in a while. VTA formerly used 21.5 motors. For about 2 years, we've been using the USVTA mandated Novak 25.5 motor. It's the only legal motor.

Any AMB transponder except the very latest MyLaps will work. The MRT clones also work.

TCs use 2s LiPo (7.4v nominal). 1/12 scale and WGT use 1s LiPo (3.7v nominal). Almost all 1s LiPo batteries are virtually the same size (about 1/2 the size of a TC pack).

Yesterday on Hobbytalk's BRP forum Wayne said the MRTs were in. Give him a shout over there if you still need one.

CarbonJoe,
Thanks for the link, and yes the first post in this thread also has the info. That was really just a rhetorical question for you, since you run just about every class at the gate.

Nope. We're doing our part to not support the monopoly. Several people have MRT transponders.

We race on-road RC cars at the Gate. You should try it sometime.

I fully support this rebellion.. I think that its great when a company is innovative and has great solutions but I also despise any company that chooses to corner a certain market and loose sight of the goal in mind. I love this hobby but I seriously doubt Ill ever buy anything from AMB or MyLaps because of their prices. Used maybe and certainly because its necessary but there are also other options out there. I'm hoping someone with the smarts gets fed up with the price gouging and innovates.

Default Quick Question...

I may be in your area on the 27th. and was wondering what classes run at your "roval" races. I only run touring cars and would like to race. THX

Sat. April 27th is BRP Roval Series. On those days we only run Bud's Racing Products(BRP) 1/18th scale pan cars. Most of the guys run 3100 oval. But a few of us also run Road. They make it, so it is a quick track change over between Road and Oval.

Any of the dates listed as NORCAR club races have TC. 17.5 and VTA. I believe occasionally 13.5 foam if enough guys show. But I have not seen it in a while. If you are in the area come on out anyway. Bud usually has some Rentals if you feel the need for speed. BRP is a spec class so tires, gearing, motor, speed control, and battery are all the same. Keeps the 20 plus Oval entries incredibly close.

I'm not sure about 12th scale CarbonJoe can speak to that. But VTA guys are running below a 4.0 FDR. Some as low as 3.6 maybe even 3.5.

depending on spur size, motor set up, tire diameter, I typically shoot for a 90mm rollout.

If you had 51-56 with a 76/78/80 spur you should be able be good.

I need to learn more terminology cause I have no clue what you just said. I know for VTA we are running a 25.5 novak with rubber tires. IDK what the spur is on the TCXX so Ill have to look. On the 12th CRC we are running 1s LiPo's with 17.5 motors, again, not sure what the spur is.

I should have my CRC today granted no acts of God destroy the mail truck on its way here. I thought the TCXX would have been here today but FedEx is showing Saturday delivery.. Im still planning on visiting the track to watch some BRP so this delivery better not cut into my day too much...

The reason I was asking is because one of the guys on here has lost heart to racing and is selling everything and he has quite the selection of pinions. I'm always out hunting for a good deal. Anyways, hope to be racing soon! Maybe even next weekend if I can get something together.

For TCs, Final Drive Ratio (FDR) = (Spur/pinion) * Internal Drive Ratio

Internal Drive Ratio = (drive pulley / layshaft pulley)

On an Xray T4, drive pulley is 38, layshaft pulley is 20, so it's IDR is (38 / 20) = 1.9

I run a 96 tooth spur, 48 tooth pinion, so FDR = (96/48) * 1.9 = 3.8.

TCs usually mention FDR since the tire diameter doesn't change.

For 1/12 scale, we deal in rollout, since the foam tires wear over time. Rollout is the distance the car moves for one revolution of the motor shaft. Ideally, once you find a rollout for the motor you're using, as the tires wear, you adjust the pinion to keep the same rollout.

Rollout = (Tire diameter * pinion * pi) / (spur)

You can give rollout in mm or inches. It depends on how you measure the tire diameter, in mm or inches. The rest of the numbers in the calculation don't have units.
