Default Spring Scale

Yes, that is the exact link, Integy, It really is a pretty trick tool to use. It will let you know if a spring is tired or not.

Default No more break problems!!!!

WOW!!! Now this car is really fun to drive - I'm really able to break pretty hard where I need to on the circuit

I had had my ATV for the breaks set down to 13% and even then, the car would break away. Now I've got it set at 50% and as long as I'm sensible about where and when I break, I can really hit those breaks leading up to a corner.

Now I just have to get my setup sorted out a bit better.

This is where the fun begins :-)

Cheers, Mark.

Mark, glad things are working out for you If you're still breaking traction when braking on a straight line, try and experiment with reducing the rear droop (i.e. say from +6 to +7) till the setup that works best. Patience is the key

I'm pretty happy, too!!

Droop dictates the maximum ride hight, yeah? So increasing from +6 to +7 would take 1mm from the ride hight?

I've also bought some new springs - blues and reds. so I can beef-up the front end a little in order to reduce the weight transfer under breaking.

My setup isn't so good at the moment, as when I hit some bumps in a very quick left kink, the car barrell rolled!!!!! Ooops I think the ride hight is too high

Cheers, Mark.

Yes... In a way... By reducing the rear droop from +6 to +7, you reduce the rear ride height of the car by 1 mm. Therefore, you need to set and increase the rear ride height by 1 mm. You do this by using a 1mm larger tire diameter (front and rear to get the same tire rollout) or you can compress the rear springs. If you change the ride height by compressing the springs, you actually need to check the camber again But small amounts of droop increments / reductions (small changes in ride height) will not affect the camber settings too much. Changing ride height by using different tire diameters (that means you need a truck load of various tire diameters ) will maintain the camber settings.

Try to set the ride height as low as you possibly can. I find that this method is one of the quickest and best methods of reducing traction roll. Then again, it depends on the tire diameter you'll be using. For example, I find that if I want to run a large droop in the front (say -2) and at the same time want to keep the front ride height to a minimum (say 5 mm), I need to run a tire diameter of 60 mm to make the front shocks fully extended.

Yes, I also use harder springs to reduce the amount of weight transfer to the front. That's a good money spent on the complete set of springs. Hope you got the longer Veteq ones... Not that it matters if you use the front springs (they are similar in lenght and characteristic for the normal and Veteq ones)... Just in case you would happen to use the rear springs.

WOW! That's quite a bit of info!

I don't have enough tyres at the moment, and I don't have a tyre truer, so I'll not be able to go into this level of fine tuning just yet.

I have a question about the ride height - I'm a bit confused:

The droop setting limits the max ride height - so say we set the droop to +7 and then put the tyres on and find that the ride height is 9mm (due to the tyre diameter). There is no way I can now lower the ride height without truing the tyres - is this correct?

Thanks again, Mark.

If that is the case, you can lower your car's ride height by decompressing / loosening the shocks to say 6 mm rear ride height. Now if you need to get the shocks to have the same uptravel as before (rear droop +7 and ride height 9 mm), you need to increase the rear droop by 3 mm (which is 9 mm - 6 mm) which you would have the rear droop end up as +4 (which is 7 - 3).

When you do that or any time you change your ride height using your shocks, you ideally need to re-check your camber settings like I mentioned just previously.

Well, what I do concerning tires is I accumulate the ones that I use. I would use them out of the box and half way through, I would check the tire diameter, record them down and I'll keep them for future use. Just keep a record of what tire diameter sizes and what the shore number you have. Over time, you will accumulate enough to be able to pick and choose the correct tire diameter specially for race

Thanks again

So far I've destroyed all the wheels I've bought But that's mainly because I couldn't break to get myself out of trouble Hopefully things will now improve

Cheers, Mark.

Default The Snake Reviewed in the Latest RCNitro Mag

Has anybody seen the pictures and decals of the Crowd Pleaser body shell used on the 705 reviewed in the latest RCNitro mag (August 2003 issue)?

That's gotta be one of the coolest body masking / decals I've seen to date Very intimidating to the snake haters

I think it's too detailed to be air brush work. It's got to be some kind of internal / external prepainted decals. Anybody seen any decals like this or know if these decals are sold elsewhere? Thanks.

Ummm, it also has a slight greenish tint ala Matrix The girl's a hottie too

Got the Mag, from the detail pictures inside, it actually air brush work..... nice work huh ?

One thing i notice they assemble differently as on the manual are the rear shock position. Instead on the block they put it on the lower arm, kinda like using the LSA shock tower, but instead with the stock shock tower.

Good positive reviews!

Be interested to hear how well it was received by the magazine - I've not come across a 705 review yet.

Any chance of a summary?

Cheers, Mark.

Basically all they did way praise the car and said it was one of the best nitro touring sedans around. At the end of the article under the "verdict" section this is what they put:

"Serpent's engineers put a lot of thought into this car. I didn't think they could improve much on the impulse design but they proved me wrong. It's an excellent car; it's easy to adjust, and it handles with A-main ease. The 705 is a serious racecar that's right at home on the track. Put your CD case on the floor when you goto the races; you'll need room on the passenger seat for your trophy on the way home."

I had a shell once for my 1:8th car. Bought it from a guy in Holland. It had 7 colours all swirled together like something you would do with an art package after messing up a picture into just colours. Really cool.
