Steve, the default setup is actually very good to start with. At CP and Vegas we use red springs all the way around with 37's all around and that works good too.

hey Garen, thanks for the info. Im getting the car tomorrow and am going to get it ready for the rc pro race at Rams this weekend. Couple of questions.. what gearing should i run ( similar to Vegas track without the porkchop) and what size tires should i run for quals and mains? thanks

Looks like this combination is working pretty well for him and that Serpent is coming back to the winner circle with a really good car.

Attached a few pictures i found on the net
Interesting. Looks like Tanaka is running Mugen shocks on his car. East CVDs up front. Kawahara linkage stopper too.

Too bad Kawahara doesn't make more stuff for Serpent. Really excellent quality. I'd say just as good as Hudy. Perhaps with a little separation from Mugen they just might.

Hi Steve,

16/49, 19/44 for gearing
All around 3 holes open, 40wt. or 45wt.
All around Red or Blue Springs
Front and Rear roll bars flat (tune for track conditions)
Rear roll center in the middle position
Front and Rear downstops standard
Rear Shock Mounting in lowest position
Standard caster, along with the camber front and rear
Standard wheelbase setting
+2 or +2.5 degrees rear toe in
Ackermann #2 on the outer holes

Anything else I haven't mentioned I would start off with the standard factory settings. Hope this helps.

I ended up taking home the 2nd place trophy. My car had a bit more on-throttle steering than I prefer but was manageable.
Brandon McNally was very fast (again) qualifying 2nd in 1/8 Open A Main. He had some troubles and didn't get to finish.

Go Serpent!
Great job Kirk.

I know Leo Virtusio is working on getting a 960 together. Another 960 in Cali, welcome back to 1/8th scale Leo.

Some additional changes: (better for the rear-end stability of the 960)

WOS on front of the car
Lowest position of rear shock's can be even lower or find a middle-spot
Wheelbase -2

The name is Pieter.

Here it is. Other changes will be available within the next months.
Also notice the bodymount position and take care of the rear rollcenter inserts, they should be to the outside and downwards.

Steve,

I mentioned spacers to move the shocks away from the tower in the last message. These work perfect..

Chris

Chris, do you use the spacers regardless of positon on the shock tower or only when you mount them in hole '4'?

The 4th position is not exactly official but seems to be working for a lot of 960 drivers out there.

The issue is ... this is not hole "4"...., you don't need the spacers here and the shocks works better than the lowest position.

I don't know. We always use 45W 3 holes and sometimes 50W.
