hello another problem

has anyone have a problem with side plate L carbon(903132)?

when my engine(RB C5) is on the chassis,i can't put the side plate because the engine touch it with the crankcase backplate's screw

what the solution??

i'm going to bore the side plate where the screws touch...

I used a dremel and took some material away where the screws touched.

Yes I had the same problem...seems like there are a few issues with design tolerances that Serpent overlooked. Too bad. I spaced the plate out to clear the engine by adding just enough washers to clear. Serpent again designed what they thought would be minimal amount of clearances to make it work but in the end it didn't. Front belt to steering servo saver is another example. While the car is great these kids of things should not be happening!!

Suggestion for Serpent: 2 Brackets in the bag. Surprise! Surprise! Not everyone drives a Mega engine!

It kind of funny that not all of my Novarossi motors touch the brace. Only my most recent 321p's motors touch. It seems like that newer backplates have the screws sticking out further. I have the one-piece mount in my car right now and there is actually some clearance between the backplate and the brace.

ok i drilled 2 holes for the C5's screw, but i think i will use a dremel to take away a little bit material, because the engine touch a little bit

i finished to build my 960 yesterday evening

it's harder to build a serpent than a mugen, with mugen all is ok nothing to touch,to drill or to take away

I always heard that it is annoying to build a serpent,i confirm that sound

but i'm happy to have this car,i think she'll give me a lot of pleasure on the track

thank you with all those which helped me

As Chris stated earlier, crankcases, rear cover plates and cover plare screws vary from engine to engine and manufacturer to manufacturer.

The best solution is to countersink the rear cover plate holes and use flat head screws of the appropriate size to attach the rear cover plate. No grinding or spacing necessary for the stiffener. As an added bonus it is a little easier taking the engine in and out of the car.

This will allow stock unmodified to be used without weakening the integrity of the part.

Thats why they are worn out earlier.....

I've also heard that a Mugen really fits well, so probably there tolerances are smaller.....
