Hi...

been a mugen mrx4x for the past year...fed up with stripped belts and transmission not free !!!..... just got a 2nd hand serpent 960 08 spec.

Confused about the the front upright... 1 and 2 are written on the front upright ( are they the wos)...1 on left and 2 on right...is that correct ?

From previous article...more steering does that means swap them over inverted so 2 on left and vice versa.

What about the eccentic, do i need to swap them as well...what they do ?

Yes,

1 is left and 2 is right

Serpent.com has a manuel if you need. Just go under products, gas, 1/8 scale and downloads.

I do not use the eccentrics. I use the larger bearing on the front instead.

You don't have to give an excuse for switching.

Mugen might be cheaper on the parts, but in the end, a Snake is hard to beat on durability.....

Hi Guys,

Just finished the 960-08. The front belt is touching (just) the steering post (ackerman). Is it just mine or is there a trick there? I can move the rear pulley a bit...

you should be able to move the small 16T pulley a bit, so the belt runs free...

Moved the pulley. The belt is away from the tower, but it looks as if the lip on the pulley might wear the belt's side?

the lip should have a straight and a chamfered side, the chamfered side should face the belt....

For the first time ive fitted the newer flyweights ( the ones with a hole in for a grub screw) No grub screws fitted and flyweights mounted to the pivot pins Alsothe larger thrust plate and a red clutch shoe. The spring is a standard serpent silver and set to 1.4mm on the clutch nut. Clutch gap set to 0.7 with .1 end float.

Within a couple of minutes running the clutch shoe was turning to dust with much heat. Not only this the thrust plate was distorting and as the clutch shoe was wearing down so quickly the clutch bell was hitting and wearing a groove into the thrust plate ?. I stripped the clutch down and replaced again with new parts not changing anything on the settings and once again the same thing happened, what am I doing wrong ?

When this happened to me I found that my clutch bell was distorted. This happened when it tried to throw out one of the centrifugal shoes. Once I replaced the clutch bell the problem went totally away.

Are the flyweights around the right way, as they are opposite to the standard ones. I may have this the wrong way round, but standard flyweights are leading and the ones with a hole in each end are trailing. I couldn't see what difference it made, but changing them to be the correct way around, I wasn't going through a shoe every tank or 2. The clutch bell needed a sand after that to smooth it out and so far no problems now.
