spring differences

what do the differenet color springs do for the mtx3 i know that they are harder or softer but what does that do for the cars handling

stock gearing vs other

i am running a stock mtx 3 with stock pulleys, i was reading the robbie collins article in xrc (again) and he recommends a 16/19 , 49/45 for parking lot tracks, it will give better bottom end performance but what will happen to top end, will u have less top speed or will it just take longer to get there?

trying to get myself a gear selection going and i need some info

When people use the term "parking lot track" they are basically talking about small tracks. Small tracks the top speed is not important. You want the quick acceleration.

Your top speed will be slower than with some other gearing, but you will get to that new slower top speed more quickly.

gonzoY5: yea i had the animated twin milk jugs bouncing! they were very well cupped as well!
but i noticed the new avatar rule and thought it would be more sensible to change it first, then to have them actually warn you, and after all you do get kids in here!

rjl: Hi Rob, nah our track isnt that bad! i've never stripped a belt through a rock before! there are small pebbles around though! but yea... the majority run belt anyway not that i like to follow everyones ideas its just preference.

Errrr . . . . no, the gearing and top speed remain exactly the same.
The same pulleys / belt are driving the rear wheels from the layshaft.
However, the 16/19 conversion (on the side belt) causes the front wheels to be driven faster than the rears. This is why a smaller tyre on the front is needed.

Taylor R - He is not refering to the conversion that some people are doing. He is changing the pinnion gears on the Clutch Bell.
the top speed is dependent on the Gearing, and how lean the Mill is.

diameter of the tires affects the top speed too.

Scott Fisher 02-03-2005 11:04 AM

I also believe he is referring to the gearing as I know that Robbie does not ever use the 16/19 pulley conversion. At least not as of about 45 days ago.

Taylor-Racing 02-03-2005 05:12 PM

Ahhh . . yes.
My apologies, Scott is exactly correct.
It always looks much clearer on the second reading.

I have ran on some BIG parking lots before. A sweeper coming onto a 200FT straight. You don't always want the smaller pinions.

Mugen Pressure Chamber

Anyone have any pics on how you've mounted your Mugen pressure chamber? I jsut got it and I'm trying to figure out how to mount it cleanly.
