Wish anybody who attends Carson Mall race this weekend good luck!!:D

Anybody knows what throttle punch and throttle curve are?

mtx3 or pro spec

i decided to go with the regular mtx 3 kit instead of the pro spec kit, even though the kit is a litmited edition i'm gonna use the extra cash on a kick A$$ engine,

are the nova's being shipped by mugen yet, has anyone seen any prices?

are there any must have or nice to have upgrades for the mtx3?

gentleman81 04-30-2004 03:43 PM

kawahara??

is there a better site for kawahara, by better i mean in english?

thanks

Gentleman81: Good choice either way. I already have an kick a$$ engine that I still need to break in :D

Varuth: Just an guess from an engineer
Throttle punch - instantaneous reaction from the engine on addition of throttle input.
Throttle curve - the overall reaction of the engine throughout the throttle range.
Could be different, noone has used these terms around me before.

If you intend racing, front uni's are good to have, lightened cluth weights are a must. Get yourself the new tank lid, in fact get a couple, it's the only way to get replacement "O" rings without buying a new tank and they deteriorate.
Get yourself 5mm i.d and 3mm i.d. shim sets, more costly but the Kyosho one comes in three thicknesses, you need most of the 5mm shims for correct clutch assembly but also added dust shields for the brake cam and steering post bearings. The rear arms have more end float than they need so fix it during the assembly.
During assembly here are a few things to pay attention to.
( You guys should all add to this with your own experiences)
Do not overtighten the grub screws holding the front lower hinge pin, it will bind if you do.
When installing the brake pins into the chassis make sure the serrations in the pins do not face the brake pad.
Roughen the ends of the pins that support the brake pads and use some cyano to make sure they will not come out of the bulkhead.

Aren't they the same thing as Throttle Speed Rate?

does anybody here run the side belt conversion? Does it really work?

Bivens 04-30-2004 08:32 PM

Throttle Punch and Curve

  • Throttle Punch is simply a name for causing the throttle to "jump" through the extreme-low end of the range with the addition of any positive throttle input.....effectively, the use of the throttle punch function causes an immediate jump in servo position from idle to some set value (typically maybe 5% to 10%) to attempt to speed up throttle response of the engine by eliminating the use of very-low throttle positions where the air-flow through the carb throat is too low to effectively function......(this function would be more useful on engines that do not come off of idle well or exhibit poor throttle response)
  • Throttle Curve simply refers to the relationship between the trigger-movement and the servo-travel. A linear relationship means that the "curve" is a direct relationship between the two.....(ex. 50% trigger = 50% throttle servo response). The curve can be altered in many ways by different radio manufacturers....common methods allow exponential curves which will "sensitize" the response on one-end of the servo's travel while de-sensitizing it on the other end. New methods by some manufacturers allow the curve to be treated in multiple linear parts....(ex. -100%=full brake, 0%=idle, 50%=30%, 70%=50%, 100%=full throttle). Different than exponential because the user can change a point on the relationship without affecting the others.

Just another answer from an engineer.....civil

I run the conversion and noticed that I do save tires with it. The rears don't wear as fast as with the stock pulleys. Like everyone said on here, you gotta true the fronts down.

Johnnytc3 04-30-2004 10:39 PM

mckrooz, hmm but then what is the point if you have to true down the front? From what im getting here is:

stock belts- wear rear tire faster

conversioin - wear fronts faster

no, nothing to do with tire wear, with the conversion your front wheel is smaller and it is compensate with diffferent front to back ratio by different size pulley. since the front tire has less foam, thinner then you will have much better steering overall. MTX3 stock form already have excellent steering and after the 16/19 conversion then you can gain even more also meaning you can take the car into conor faster. Now if you can take conors faster then that means lower lap time.

rjl 04-30-2004 11:32 PM

The front is overdriven. You must run smaller fronts to achieve 1:1 ratio.
