Mugen MTX-4
#3601
What I can tell you, is that I used the red shoe during the entire life cycle of my MTX3 (I bought one from the first batch) and I have raced that sucker almost every weekend.
And to be clear, I'm talking about one single clutch shoe in 4 years.
Justifies the price in my opinion

I did notice that ALL HPI Team drivers were using the Grey Disc. For that reason I purchased it. But I also went searching for the red and was blown away at its high price compare to others?
I also snagged the yellow. Ill probably do some testing with it once I swap to the full mugen set on my r40. Been meaning to do it for awhile.
Also does anyone know a good place to call a Mugen Technical / Customer Service center in the USA? Im not too familiar with them or where to go. Im going to see if they can offer some help. Im also going to try and contact some mugen drivers and see if I cant get something resolved. As well will be racing next weekend and will poll a couple of the local racers.
Thanks for the input so far on the subject

Alright cool. Just spoke with Mike Swauger on the phone.
He said this:
Red and Yellow are very similiar. He said there a good shoe to use. Yellow will just give you more snap.
Red and Yellow will also last the longest , around 3.5-4 hours.
Then grey gives the most snap and he said was the best I believe, but will only last about 1.5 hours.
As for black I dont think really anyone uses that and he didnt say. But that about does it.
But now I understand why the Team HPI drivers were using it. As well I bought used clutch setup from Mike and it indeed had the grey disc.
You guys need someone like me, all I do is track down info. LOL , I dont even drive a mugen and im getting more info on it. j/k Id right click and save this post. Dont wanna go searching all over for it.
Peace -- AI.

If I wanted to get into racing ..what is the hot legal setup for the MTX 4? What servos and engine? I am also looking at that new JR radio DX2 radio...

Your kit came with 2 plastic shims on one of the part trees. Put them behind the the wheel hexes and set your track width accordingly. I myself use Jaco wheels and did the same.

Medium Bite, Entrance and exit to the straight are very large opened turns which I can almost go full throttle (on entering the straight).
Heres a pic:

Infield is composed by two chikanes (you can notice one on the pic on the left side of the straight). 2 medium turns (which connects the chikanes) and 1 hard turn that connects to the straight's opened turns. In general, i would say its not that technical but it aint opened enough to run one-way. Im using 100,000 front diff and 10,000 rear diff.
