European 2wd 1/8th pan car on-road Classic class

INS
I gennerally run the box on the "Modern" cars but not on the "Vintage" ones. Obviously Phil (hitcharide) doesn't worry about them!!! ;-)
I'll see a bunch of the guys this weekend and see what I can find out...

Hey
I've only been running 1/8th gas again for a couple of years and my observation is the 4wd class guys seem to all use them but not all the cars in pan. Not sure about the GTs. The rules seem to be a bit flexible.

We use the ins boxes for a intake noise suppressor. It helps keep the two neighbor hoods with in ear shot of the track off our back. Its not something we normally police sense they are the standard in this age of nitro racing.

But for the record, None of the pan cars I saw last season used an INS box.

Aren't INS boxes in the ROAR rules???

I do have a K&N off my old Ford F150 I could install on the car...might look a little ungainly and I suspect it wouldn't be aerodynamic but I bet it'd be quiet! And somehow the mention of "rules" and such make me think of a little story...
In the Navy, we had this thing called PMS (not what you think!) "Preventative Planned Maintenance System." It was a huge list of checks and maintenance that had to be done at such a time using only certain tools, etc., and it consumed a huge part of our day with little to show for it. Then we went to the Gulf....and the first thing we did was throw away the book. The rules get a lot simpler when you're getting shot at, I guess. I just remember morale improving because we got to spend more time doing the JOB rather than dotting i's and crossing t's. And then I compare the J to a .50 cal machine gun....built some time ago but it's incredibly durable, reliable, and there's not much to compare it with. Sort of like pan class today, it's more about the fun of driving than the tech.
I'm still trying to get Edam to produce a pan car...I think they are a little hesitant, they don't see the market yet. Just out of curiosity, what's the thought of the crowd in here, another car like the Motonica (belt), something strictly gear driven, or shaft drive? I suspect were Edam to produce a 2wd, they'd be more inclined to do it along the lines of the Razor2 build, which Motonica does. Their RTR version 4wd, strictly for the newbie (but fully convertible and upgradable) is a bit heavier, nylon and aluminum pieces are much thicker, and it comes with the three shoe instead of Centax so a newbie can learn to drive before having to fool with the tech side of it. Should another pan be built along those lines as well? What I'm building and what Edam may produce I'm sure would be two different creatures entirely, but if I could get them to produce a 2wd, I could also make suggestions as to what the drivers would want it to be like. What are your thoughts....

Gee, thanx Rick.....
9.3.7 Inlet Noise Silencer device "INS" box shall be required for level 3,4 and 5 event for on-road 1/8th scale competition. Roar will maintain an approved list of acceptable devices available on the "Approvals" area of the ROAR web site. No performance modifications will be allowed to the INS box. Modification will be determined by comparison to sample device as provided by the manufacturer and under control of a ROAR representative. Tolerance for this purpose will be +/- .1mm.
Bah humbug. Looks like I get to go buy more stuff.

Against my better judgement...
Blessedly, the camera batteries went dead on the third pic. But I thought I'd post one pic of the front.
Is it too heavy? Probably.
Could it be made smaller/thinner? Definitely. I'm even considering doing away with the middle axle/make the sides independent of each other.
But...it should be extra EXTRA durable, and I think I have a partial fix to the problem of lightweight steering hubs and the extra punishment they'll take with no suspension to cushion things. I slightly narrowed the distance between the top and bottom screws, away from the thinnest parts of the hub without actually causing it to bind. So...I get my camber and my caster, it'll take the rubber or the foam tires..now all I need are the ben hur attachments for taking out other cars.

[QUOTE=aarcobra;11867071]Thanx....it's rough...but it's a prototype, not "purty" like Matt's. The two speed stays in. On the short tracks, I plan to pull 2nd gear pinion, and on big tracks I'll pull 1st and lock 2nd in. That, plus some extra gears give me a lot of gearing options. I'm just wondering what it'll do with the rubber tires...I know it'll do ok on foam, and my turning radius seems pretty good. Next, I have to mount the servo saver, then Tom will make the servo tray and mounts. All I need after that is an exhaust and it should be good to go.
