Maybe I used a too hot plug (6TC with 18C temp and 16%nitro) or maybe I was too lean (about 4 1/4 turn out HSN).
The plug broke and filament scratched piston side. Top of piston is also sandblasted. See pics
The motor run about 8/9 liter.
What can I do?

Feeling sorry :( for you.
If it was my engine, I will clean it off, rebuild it and sell it cheap.
Coz in my opinion, it will not recover even P/S+rod is new. The con-rod(big end) and the bearing is suffer from lots a vibration.

OW... I feel for you too, what fuel were you using (% Nitro) and what heat plug were you using?

Yup, you're right, that is why F1 cars literally lasts only 1 weekend's race. High performance parts does not last usually.

If I want the car light then that's the "price" I'll have to pay. I'm not expecting the Ti shafts to allow faster rotation since we know that the shafts are too small in diameter to make a difference to the rotational mass.

Of course, like you said, if Serpent comes out with hollow shafts from Hudy Spring Steel, that would be perfect! Light AND long lasting.

This last statement somehow does not sound right for a business :D, Serpent has to make money somehow too. :D The other thing I'm hoping that will come to those who wait is the KHM .12 engine! :)

I know how you feel, my Max looks exactly like yours...more scratches in fact...   Just get the P/S replaced...and be a little more careful with the tune...:(

I would like to try one out before investing on one though.

I was exactly of the same opinion...
Once I tried the tool, I was immediately in love with it. :D

Like I mentioned to someone, this will surely happen at least once to anybody who plays with nitro engines. I feel sad. Just like what crashed_1 suggested, perhaps you could put new piston / sleeve in together with a new conrod. How are the other parts like the bearing?

Agreed. But difference will be in unsprung weight !

 :sneaky: Are you planning to get one?

I dont believe it is ever going to happen. Mr. Meister doesnt have the time to mass produce both .21 and .12 engines. Unless you are a factory driver you will never see one unless its second hand. Best bet is to hit Mark Green over the head and start running :D

Front bearing is ok, rear one (I mean the one inside the crankshaft) has something inside: you can feel it sometimes turning by hand. But may be I can take it away since you do not feel it constantly.
Anyway P/S + conrod + rear bearing is 160 USD at mushroom, I will think over, don't know if it is worth since for 260 USD I can have a new engine...

BTW how do you take the rear bearing out? Heat gun and ...?

it is not worth to fix the engine 160us, i would prefer to get a new one. not sure if your big end of the crankshaft is still in good shape apart the bearing

speedy100 05-28-2004 04:58 AM

bearing

you may take the bearing out by putting the crank case in the hot plate and heat it up until there is some smoke coming out...
