Actually 2 tracks come to mind ... TT first, Subang Speedway second (?) :)

First Impression

:D Just drove it for the 1st time. Dusty track at the Las Vegas Silverbowl. I have never had a car feel better, stock out-of-the-box and stock setup!
Only problem I'm having is with a soft clutch. I set up 2 engines with their own clutches. One is a NovaMega 2105MS and the other is an RB V12T/Rody> The latter is new, and is what I was breaking in today. On both engines, when I put the clutch together I put the 0.5 mm shim behind the collet, etc. When I got to adjusting the clutch gap, my "A" measurement is 1.8 mm, and "B" was 1.2 mm. The given value for "A" is 1.3 mm. Do I need to go back and put another 0.5 mm shim behind the collet to bring the "A" measurement down to 1.3 mm?

Jack I believe the answer is yes. I dont own one yet (i'm in no hurry the season don't start here for 3 more months) but brad and tennessee have been complaining about the same thing, they tell me if they loosen the spring to much it bogs the motor, and if to tight it takes forever to come on. Still havent decided what to do about it yet. Their going to play with different clutch springs first:confused:

Don't worry a red disc will come along soon. they always do.

Re: First Impression

I raced the 710 for the first time today. Track is a medium length asphalt permanent track in San Antonio, with good traction. Previously I have been racing my Impulse pro on this exact track and layout. Today using my 710 my fastest lap went to 16.103 from the previous personal best of 18.213. In the main I made 34 laps as compared to my previous personal best just three weeks ago with the Impulse pro of 29 laps. Both cars were powered with the exact same motor and pipe combination. Needless to say I was very please with my 2nd place finish in the Expert Modified Foam class. This car is exceptional to say the least.

The 4 aces will always try to make you welcome.
I've driven 1/8: vector, vetec, picco; 235mm picco and impact, 2 & 4 wd; 200mm mtx2 and mtx3.

Both the Mugen models were easier to build. The Mtx2 was too heavy, and didn't handle well. The Mtx3 is really a good car. Forgiving, and the set up is perfectly reproducable. Still too heavy. By the time you replace all the parts to get it to minimum weight you've changed the CG and created suspension tuning problems. In contrast to Serpent, there are suspension adjustments built into the car which are never explained, either in the directions, or in online sources. Don't get me wrong; both Tim and Robby are personally very helpful when you see them at the races, but this in no substitute for a documented operations manual. It seems to me that factory interest and support for the club racer is non-existant. There are some weak spots in the mtx3, but there will probably be some in the 710 also.
I forgot, I also had a ntc3. Too fragile. However, every change that Barry Baker recommends for this car makes it better.
As it stand, I think the 710 is a hand-down winner. I'm sure that when I get back from the Winter Nats I'll have 2 Mtx3s for sale.

How do you compare the fit and finish quality of the two brands?

I have also has the MTX3 and now the Serpent 710, the Mugen you has to shim all the slop out of the arms out of the box to get rid off the slop, with the 710 you had to sand the arms to get them to fit. The Mugen did have a better more detailed manual, but i agree with clmbia45 Mugen never gave you setup advice on what everything did on the car like Serpent.

I will admit i have not driven the Serpent yet, but i love it so far and hopefully i have found a new home. Time will tell and it is now Mugens turn to release a new car so we will see what they come up with.
