Red with 40 should be OK, but how many holes do you have in the shocks? Try standing them up more, try harder roll-bar setting before you go to harder oil.

I have tried using yellow springs with 40 front n rear with 3hole.so far is ok.

OK, sounds good then.

question:

My stock 17t /60t 1st gear is getting worn out.
I picked up a 16t/61t set.
Is this going to give me a proper gear mesh?

thamjk 07-02-2007 08:52 PM

for rear antirollbar I used 2.5mm optional. not 3mm and not 2mm (standard).
Front rollbar is 45 degree.

Droop is default car setting.

The only problem I have is not enought steering at higher speed corner. But I think every car also the same. Reduce the speed a little bit at corner entry all should be okay...

The 16t seems to wear out gears for some reason. Stay with a 17 if possible.

changing gear ratio for 47T gear diff

Hi guys,
some info to share... I have just got back to 1/10 racing and got myself a used 710 that comes with F and R gear diff and a new IDM evo3 and 2617 pipe combo.... i find the rear belt is too tight with a 47T gear diff... so i change the break pulley to 22T from the side pulley and the belt feels good... then i setup my pinion to 17/22 and spur 60/55, the car has a good acceration after i got a good centex setup and the mid to top was balastic.... i litteraly catch up with almost all of the car and can overtake on the straight but not dare enough to do it during full speed:tire::tire::blush:... dont know is it the engine that is so fast or the gear ratio i change??? any comment??

now i'm thinking how to get the front overdrive better?? this i havent try...
the side pulley.... should i use 22F/22R, 21F/22R or 22F/21R, or the 18T front would help?? any comment and advice re welcome... thanks

cheers,
ck

Questions:-

Where did you get the 22 Brake pulley from? The standard 710 come with 24 and the 720 comes with 23.

The rear gear diff for the 710 comes with 45 teeth, why don't you use that and go back to the original 710 pulleys for the correct ratios?

ck960 07-05-2007 12:01 AM

the rear gear diff i think serpent only has 47T for 710 and 720... cant find a 45T gear diff... the 22T is a side pulley put to the break adapter with additional spacer...

I have never seen people use 22T on the brake pulley. Because it will alter the original gear ratio a lot and create a drag on the rear wheel.

I don't think 47T gear diff will fit into 710. I have bought a 45T gear diff before but now endup using original ball dif. reason is the original gear diff giving a lot of drag on the rear belt and the belt wear very fast. finally give-up.

I am runing both ball diff and no overdrive.

Hi, thanks for the reply...
when u say create a drag on the rear wheel is it mean less top speed or belt too tight?? maybe the rear belt is too tight then ur rear belt wear very fast...
i change 2nd speed to 22/55 for more top...
45T gear diff whats the part #... cant find it at serpent site...
i find the ball diff is smooth but need alot of servicing to be consistant...

actually now i want to know more about overdrive setting with rear 22T/47T
i dont know much in overdrive setting and the effect of more/same/less overdrive.... pls shine some light on me... thanks

If you use 22t at your brake pulley you will experiencing much slower turn at your rear wheel as compare to front. result, it gives you more drag. for the 45T gear diff, the belt seems doesn't fit nicely into the diff and therefore it create drag. I dont have the part number but it should be available in serpent website product section. try to search somewhere JUNE 2006.

Overdrive mean turn faster. If i have front over drive means front turns faster then rear. Standard side pulley is 22/22 overdrive is 21/22.

Only 720 apply 22/21 because the rear diff has 2 teeth higher then 710.

hope thats help

overdrive...

thanks for the reply,
so does this mean when i use 22/47 at the rear... the side i should put 22F/21R and the optional 18T at the front to compansate???:confused:
the rear belt with 22/47 conf is very good fit and not too tight... still cant find the 45T gear diff pulley... thanks,

JM Garrett posted for me earlier[i was at his house and he was at the puter] RacinJay [me] thanks i reduced the front droop and reduced the castor[less positive castor] and now it hooks like there is superglue on the track lol. Now the rear is loose i will lower my droop a little there too as it is a little loose off throttle i will be reconnecting the front sway bar and adding a rear bar when i first got the car it pushed reallybad which is why i disconected the front bar this helped a whole lot at the time now with the front hooking so good it lifts the rear tire and you can hear the motor pick up rpm i think this is due to no sway bars the setup process is getting clearer and the interaction is starting to click in my mind i run on a slightly rough track w med traction a 160ft straight and a pretty technical infield what total setup would you recomend presently car is as follows: tz12 speed tuned 16/61 22/59 yellow springs all around 40wt front 30wt rear 3hole pistons all around front shocks laid in [most inner holes] rears 2 from center 6mm ride ht in rear 5.5 infront no sway bars 61mm front tires 62 rear 37 shore front 40 rear front diff med rear diff loose car turns in like mad but is loose on and off throttle in rear[recentlly added thicker head shim and switched to 30% motor is ballistic now, this didnt help lol] i am leading in points now but the comp. it getting stiffer and i need to get my car dialed and improve my skills thanks very much for everyones help. Just for the hell of it can any one recommend a good nitro drift tire im building a second 710 for a backup/drifter with more bling than the law will allow[lol] ive been drifting electric for a while and would like to bump it up a notch! thanks for the help RacinJay
