So stock out the box, the 710 final drive ratio would be 6.25 and 5.0 respectively?
So what are the optional spurs and pinions available for the 710? Thanks. |

There was a fault in the text. Stock will be 6.62 for 1 gear and 4.77 for second one. For the first gear there will be 16,17,18 and for the second 21,22,23 Totally with changing the 2speed gears you will have a range from 7.15 to 6.15 for first gear and 5.09 to 4.48 for the second gear. I really think with this range you can drive everywhere. |
Seems we are only really missing Michael now
Thanks for the input from the Serpent guys!!! This is very highly appreciated! Cheers, Mark. |
about gears
This all sounds ok,
but biggest news will be how is the car building and handeling and maintenace ;) |

technology
Rene and Julius,
Would you say that 710 is technological more advance than the 950R? After all, 950R only has Centax II clutch and I doesn't have that active thingy at the rear.... |

And I’m really sure we mad a big, big improvement. But you only build the car one time. Much more important is how much work is it to maintenance. And that is a big step we mad. With the 2 peaces bearing-blocks and the stand-alone 2speed blocks make it really easy. The Handling is still the main thing. We all know, that the 705 is good on some tracks and really bad on some others. I had driven nearly every car witch is on the marked in the 200mm class. So I know how a car must feel. Every one who has driven with the 710 until now was impressed. Sound’s good. |

When you have a clean sheet, like the 710, you can do many other things. On the 710 are more features then on the 950R. It’s also another racing class. That means, some features are not necessary in the 1:8 scale. For me the 950R is also a advanced car, think about the lying-down throttle servo, the easy adjustable front rollcenter,… . |

Originally posted by border r/c This all sounds ok, but biggest news will be how is the car building and handeling and maintenace ;) To me the biggest issue is Serpent's willingness to commit to the new technology..... Treky11 was right in his post a few pages back...We were(and I still am) Veteq owners...And to be honest,I get a bad taste in my mouth when I hear about the future, new innovative technology,2 years worth of testing,a new legend,etc.....Reading the 710 preview is like a 2 year old nightmare coming back to haunt me..with the discontinuation of the Veteq a bad wake up call.. That being said, here's what I want to know..... Is there going to be a full understanding given to the customer on how this new suspension works?(does Serpent even FULLY UNDERSTAND HOW this new technology works?....somehow I never got that feeling with the veteq).....Will there be a CLEAR,CONSISE explanation given on how to set it up,and what to do if the car is not handling properly?...Are STANDARD tuning tips applicable to this new technology,or is the front suspension going to use one set up method, and the rear another.... Has anyone tested this suspension after its wacked a board?....Hows it run then?.....Any compression problems, change in geometry,etc?...... Hows that 3 arm set up hold up in a rear end hit....Not everyone buying this car is a PRO driver running on a free flowing europeon grass bordered track..with drivers that know(or can) drive around you.... How long will the whole car take to re-set up the car between heats...Say what you want about the tc3 or the HPI r40....the cars are REALLY easy to work on and get set up QUICK...(and if you think thats not an issue,we'd still be running Veteq's) not trying to rain on anyones parade...... Just going in with both eyes WIDE OPEN.. http://www.sixfoottiger.com/phpbb2/i.../boingeyes.gif and before I buy the car,I'd like to see some responce to this.. I don't need to be holding an advanced, discontinued car in my hands in a years time while reading promises of things to come...and see a 720 at the hobby show... PS..alot of these points were discussed between myself and treky 11...so he gets the credit too(as well as the heat;) ) |
one more thing. serpent discontinued the veteq because customers complained a lot about the setup time/maintenance time due to the design. in my opinion, a sell out on their commitment to be the best and innovators.
that said, their commitment is suspect. so if this car does have tuning troubles, or durability troubles or anything a lot of people complain about guess what. they'll tweak a 705 call it a 750 and ask for everyone's money all over again. i'll wait and see. it might be the best thing ever and survive, but i'm not drinking the serpent kool-aid anymore. and i don't want to be told by serpent to just polish the 710 and put it on the shelf and admire it for its beauty. which yes, is what they said to do with the veteq. yeah, that was a bit infuriating |
don't say 710 is like a veteq in 1/10 200mm scale

[B]To me the biggest issue is Serpent's willingness to commit to the new technology..... The first thing I want to tell is, that we know, how the rear suspension and all the other things are working. And we really have tested it a long time. But it is only an option you can use. You also can drive with a non reactive steering rear end. So it’s up to you if you want use it. If you don’t use the features, the car setup is done in no time. In the kit there will be a Knowledge book. So you will not be a test-pilot. About crashing: When we drive, for sure we go on the limit, sometimes over it and crash. But testing this long time and improve the weak things of the car make it quite stabile. So the last couple months (also with crashing and sometimes really hard) we never broke any “pre-production” parts. In begin we broke more parts, because the material of the prototype car is really bad. But still we sad it should not brake an improved the strength. So at least we don’t even broke the prototype parts. And with the good production material crashes are not scary any more. It’s only bad, that you lose some time J. Between Veteq and 710 is a big difference. The Veteq was a critical car witch where not tested enough. Many people had big problems to find the right setup. And it was much work to maintenance the car. You really think we make the same mistake again? Now we are sure that it will work. A little but true story: In winter 2002 we had the first prototype. It was not a bad car, but it was not the car we want to have. We tested a long time and changed many things. So we learned a lot. Then we decided to put all the knowledge we had together and started again. So we had a nice looking, from begin on good going car. We stayed testing and changing and so the result was the 710. It’s not a lie when we sad Performance through Evolution. I never will say it’s the perfect car, but we keep trying. Talking over it is one thing, but drive one and you will see. |

treky11 and fastharry,
Can we agree to put the side topic Veteq thingy aside? Let's continue to discuss 710 issues ! |
parts
What I don't like is the fact that I have to buy factory parts when things are broken, not other factories hop-up parts.. Why don't other manufacturers make parts for Serpent? Ok, many say that serpent parts are TUFF, but still! Speedmind makes a full set of titanium screws for MTX3, what about for serpent??
Has serpent contacted any third parties manufacturer about making parts for their cars? I personally think that would greatly increase serpents sales!! Nowadays, MTX3 or VOneRR EVO or 705 are probably VERY close in terms of performance. But in terms of third party parts availability, serpent is way behind!! |
