I have started reading this forum from the begining, and as a rc and 710 novice I am very grateful for all the help and info on this forum. :)

This hobby is prohibitive to beginers in terms of budget and info and this is exactly what we need to help make this passion accesible to more and more people! Keep it coming!

I'm currently using the pro axles in front and stock rear. The rear axles have worn a bit and I get quite a lot of free play. I'm thinking of getting the UJ for the front and switch the pro axles to the back.
I hope this would eliminate as much freeplay as possible. I think that's where the it would make the most difference. Eliminating freeplay...

I put a 710 up for sale with a couple hundred dollars worth of NIP parts and a Mugen X-12 in great shape.

have any of you guys had a chassis that was bend just by normal racing? My chassis was tweaked quite far and i didn't it something very hard or anything...

maybe it is due to the starter box you've been using.

try to loosen the upper deck screws and press the chassie against a hard and flat surface while tighten all the four screws down.

By how many mm have you enlarged the key hole in the carbon side stiffener to apply sufficient tension to the side belt when you run the 21t side pulley?
Will this cmpromise the strenght of the carbon? Does Serpent offer a revised version of the stiffener?
I don´t have a milling machine at my disposal to enlarge the key hole in the proper way and I think a Dremel tool will not give a clean keyhole to prevent the sliding alu bit from turning when you turn the screw on the outside in order to tension the belt.
Any thoughts?

It's not really nescessary to enlarge the hole in the stiffener.

I do normally use the standard side belt with the 21t pulley. The optional free run belt gives slightly more slack.

If I understood everything correct, you found that with the modified alu bit you get enough tension to run the standard belt without opening the slot in the carbon stiffener. Right?

For me the tension is enough. If you file the alu part so that it can go down all the way you should be fine.

I used bigger bearings. Works fine for me

Hi guys,

I don't own 710, but I just built my Serpent 835 and I have a question related to what you were discussing as far as the tension on the belt goes. My problem is on contrary to yours. The side belt is very tight (I use everything stock including the pulley). It almost feels like a guitar string and I had a very hard time to get it on. I had to take off one of the pulleys and carefully press it back with the belt on. The tensioner is all the way up as there's no extra tension required on top of what it is. I have a feeling that it might be even tweaking the chassis a tiny bit (I don't have the radio plate mounted on yet) so I have to check into that.

But is it normal that when brand new the side belt is so tight?

The 835 has an issue with the side belt tension. What you can try is putting thin washers (about 0.5mm thick) between the middle axle block and the chassis. Only use washers at the front two screws so the block angles back slightly. That will reduce the side tension a bit.

I have to admit it's suprising as this seems to be a pretty big miss by Serpent. I might try what you are suggesting but just visualizing it it doesn't make sense to me, because you are trying to get the pulleys closer. By putting the washers under the block will change somewhat its height, but will not get it any closer to the rear pulley.

The weird thing is that I browsed through mytsn forum and haven't seen anybody saying anything about side belt tension.

I use same tecnic at my 705 to tight up the front belt and the side belt get a lot more loose.
