I believe your thinking of the serpent 733. They now have a chassis brace for the car in the newest release.

PERHAPS HAS TO DO WITH THE FACT THAT NOW THE REARS USES ALUMINUM BULKHEADS AND THE SUSPENSION ARMS HOLDER IS ALSO ALUMINUM WITH PLASTIC BUSHINGS TO ADJUST RC, FOR NOW WE SHOULD JUST WAIT AND SEE AND IF TOO MUCH FLEX TAKES ITS TOLL I SEE MONOMOUNT BEING RELEASED TO PREVENT IT. TIL THEN ONLY GUESSING

Was it Serpent that tried bracing via the engine mount somehow?, though I think they now run a normal brace in the latest rear revision?.

I'm fairly sure someone else tried no brace, then the brace came out shortly after, and it looks very tacked on...

Really I'm not going to judge what Mugen do at all, just anything to do with design I find interesting, overall I think the CAD images are great to look over, other point for me is the engine position looks kind of odd, or more so offset more than the old MTX4.

hmm, thats not until August 20th-21st in Germany. Wonder if they will release the car before this event in July like everyone is guessing...

Do you guys really think that:

1. The current 1/8th World Champion
2. TQ holder at the last 3 consecutive World Championships (1/8th + 1/10)
3. The designer of the multiple winning MRX5

will forget or omit something as important as a brace from the new car? It is done for a reason.

In Robert Pietsch we trust!

I'm pretty sure there is no need for a brace due to the battery being mounted elsewhere(to the radio tray )and not a opening in the bottom of the chassis to have flex in the middle:nod: making a more stiff or ridgit design,

TomB 06-15-2011 02:50 AM

if the price is right...this might be the car that gets me back into the hobby.

Bishop 06-15-2011 03:11 AM

Serpent does the same with the battery, so maybe not...

If I had to take a stab at speculating the how, well perhaps the near symmetrical chassis and centralized engine mounting negates excessive flex there, though we are still talking of a flex point in relation to gear mesh, so how do you not have a brace at a point where a few mm flex may strip gears?.

Still I'm excited as hell to get one regardless of any of the technical details, if it turns out to be problematic I'll just go 8th scale...

the 733 always came with a brace, it was plastic. i owned one of the first batch of kits, and it had a brace guys. now they have made alloy ones, but also new bulkead design for the rear has cross bracing as an option to stiffen even more. i ran my 733 with out the brace, well the brace bolted the the bulkhead, but no screw to the radio plate. and it was fine.

Pattojnr 06-15-2011 03:18 AM

Bishop,. maybe no brace is needed due to the chassis being 6mm thick ? :D try and flex that !

Nah mate, got to be 8mm at least, I want to take a 5th scale head on at an all classes meet, and win...

Really it can all flex as much as it wants (electric does), just as long as that one point stays rigid, same on electric, that motor/spur section is usually boxed in as such.

You know I think maybe the car I was thinking of was the KM or Cap, one somewhere has a brace that curves around and sticks out like a poor afterthought, still it's just me being pedantic about how things look, to put that in perspective I bought a TOP Photon cause it's dead sexy to look at...

the KM comes with a huge ass Carbon brace ( i had one as well), so it must have been the Cap car. i had a couple of cars once, they did look very Sexy, but it didnt help the lap times much, and looked dead ugly when it hit something
