Interesting two articles...
I say two cause the one in the link has a link in it to an older article, where some tips are given, I think from Rob, about gear problems.
The linked within the linked article, basically says you need to spend time and take a lot of care with setting gear mesh and reducing backlash, gears need to be fully meshed, so grind your chassis holes or shim your flywheel so your pinions come far enough outwards to give as much teeth mesh as possible.
It also states you need a close gear mesh, so no large mesh gaps, and also as true as possible so careful not to set your mesh at any angle.
Also with two speed shoe gap I think it states to have as small a gap as possible for a smooth change, so in other words wind out your shoes to keep the shoe to housing gap small.

And to keep it less confusing I'll create a new post to sum up the original linked article...
So in the larger original article, it's full of interesting stuff about the warm up race and thoughts on many things...
Apparently people (some local drivers) were complaining about stripping gears when they got there, but after Rob walked most people through the tips as shown back in my first post, the problem was basically eliminated.
Even so, they actually did test a brace, as they had been taking the matter seriously, so he did have a brace he designed to stop flex in the engine area, but it is pointed out that neither he or Fukuda as main Mugen drivers have encountered the problem at all, so they still believe it's a setup issue.
In testing though the brace made the car generally handle worse, it made the car want to roll over all the time, and when grip comes up the car became a lot harder to drive or push fast, the 'only' thing that improved was the brakes due to less flex, but overall the car is as stiff as it was designed to be, and I think he stands by that, with more bracing not being necessary.
They also tested the new metal gears and I believe thicker diff housing plastics, and had no problems with either, also he brought along some new alloy inserts for the upper steering geometry, to make the car easier to drive in difficult grip conditions (here is something I noticed with my car that no one else seems to have encountered).
Very early in the article it also states that he brought along the new SRS body to test, which I think he summed up as being aggressive and nervous, so in the end went back to the P37 which is the most neutral and suits his original setup.

Good stuff Dan, and yeah I'm guessing so, with my 2 speed shoes I think very early I reduced my two speed gap, also being very picky with my gear meshing, possibly why I have yet to see any issues, so what engine you running?.
Oh other non car related issues within that article, apparently the track does not grip well in the mornings, but grips up by the end of the day (something he things will effect a lot at the worlds), and yeah his result from what I can figure is they had a flame out at the 3rd fuel stop, so decided to test a different engine, I don't think he cared about the actual win as such, they only went there to test.

Just to demonstrate to you misguided Mugen fans how utterly unbiased I am; and before my misguided friends with Mugens get a chance to gloat, I would like to be the first to admit that the MTX5s of Jeff Hamon (unknown engine) & Jason Dorn (Capricorn SQR) beat the Capricorns of Chris Watchorn (Capricorn SQR) & Chance Karlsson (Capricorn SQR) in qualifying at a rain shortened clubbie at Brendale today.

This will not be taken lightly, and I expect the Capricorns to bounce back the next time.

Kindest regards,
Unbiased Lars.
