Don't know yet. We are in conversation to plan the racing process for both qualifying and the mains. This is going to be part of the discussion. I will be posting it here once we have developed the entire program for you.

We are having a virtual drivers meeting for the event to save time and execute social distancing. Here is the speech containing the directions and expectation of the drivers at the event.

Welcome to the 22th (2020) Anniversary race of the Great Lakes Challenge.

Schedule: (weather dependent)

Wednesday 8/26 Open Practice (limit 10 drivers on stand)

Thursday 8/27 Open Practice with Controlled Practice if needed beginning 11AM (limit 10 drivers on stand)

Friday 8/28 Controlled Practice 8AM – 12 noon. (Limit 10 drivers on stand) 2 rounds of qualifying starting at 12:15. Resort after round 2 of qualifying.

Saturday 8/29 Open practice 8AM – 9:30AM. (Limit 10 drivers on stand) 3 rounds of qualifying starting at 9:40am. There will be a resort after round 4 of qualifying.

Sunday 8/30 Open practice 8AM - 9AM. (Limit 10 drivers on stand) There might be 9:00am drivers meeting to cover any mains details. Mains all day beginning at 9:30am. There will probably be an hour break at most. Timeframe should be around 1-2pm. Qualifying for the mains will be as follows:

1/8 Open – D Main 10 cars, C Main 8 cars, B Main 8 cars, A Main 8 cars, 2 bump ups per main.

1/8 Masters – C Main 10 cars, B Main 8 cars, A Main 8 cars, 2 bump ups per main.

1/10 Touring Car – E Main 10 cars, D Main 8 cars, C Main 8 cars, B Main 8 cars, A Main 8 cars, 2 bump ups per main.

1/8 Pan Car – B Main 10 cars, A Main 8 cars, 2 bump ups for the A main.

Live RC for results: oneeigthracers.liverc.com Also, check the clip boards by the “Port-A-Poties.”

Qualifying Race Procedures: All Qualifying heats will have a 4 minute warmup period followed by the 5 minutes qualifying period. Starting the qualifying period will use the running clock. Once the 5 minute master clock expires, pit lane is closed. If a car enters pit-lane after the master clock expires, the car cannot return to the track. If a car is in pit-lane before the master clock expires, they can fuel and restart an engine and return to the track. Placing of entries in the qualifiers will be by random draw. We will NOT use practice time to form a qualifying seeding round. The ranking of qualifying position will be by single fastest qualifier. We will NOT use Qualifying Points at this race.

Main Race Procedures: The length of each main will be determined by the Race Director, announced and posted for all to see at the beginning of activity on Sunday. It might even get posted before you leave the track after qualifying is over on Saturday. There will be a 3 or 4 minute warmup period to be used at the driver’s discretion. The announcer will call the cars to the pits at the 30 second mark for fueling and placing the cars in starting position on the grid. The announcer will hand the starting of the race to the flag man at an appropriate time and the flag man will direct the pit person to fuel cars by waiving flag for 5 seconds. Once the flag man has put the tip of the starting flag on the ground, all cars should be in position, on the track to make the start. The race begins at the sound of the buzzer. There will not be any time given to restarting engines after an attempt has been made to go to the starting area and the engine dies. Starting boxes may be taken to the starting area for restarting to make the grid. If you have to return to the pits to restart the engine, you will have to start the race from the pits, leaving at the buzzer. One minutes grace in the warm up is at the Race Director’s discretion.

Fueling in qualifying and the mains must be done only in pit-lane or the starting grid. Failure to do so results in a “Stop & Go” penalty. Cars receiving pit service must come completely over the wall. Failure to do so results in a “Stop & Go” penalty. Fuel guns or bottles are NOT allowed over the pit wall.

Marshals must come out and marshal after you race. If unable to marshal, you must find a substitute. You must marshal regardless of whether or not you race in your heat. Even if you skip a round to work on or fix your car, you must marshal. Failure to show up for marshaling will result in 1 lap off your best qualifying time (from all 5 rounds). Marshalls shall not use their cell phones while marshalling. Kinda like no texting while driving!

Pit guys are not allowed to marshal cars! In front of pit lane or not, we have a marshal sitting in front of pit lane to take care of that. This has happened during an A Main final taking out a racer as the pit person stepped on a car.....we want to avoid this by restricting pit guys from marshaling. Improper pit-lane etiquette by the pit guys will result in a “Stop & Go” penalty to their driver.

Lift cars over loop if returning them from marshaling on right side of track. This is to prevent a car from scoring a lap they do not deserve.

Self-adhesive wheel discs/dots are not allowed. Please refrain from sticking them to pit benches

Tech inspections: What is checked? Pan - weight 2270 grams, 6mm restrictor. Sedan - Width, Body Height, Wing Height, Weight (1650 grams), Fuel Tank Capacity (random checks) 1/8th Masters and Open - Weight (2400 grams), Fuel Tank capacity (random checks) You can check your car before qualifying starts.

Safety Concerns: Only current paid ROAR or Toledo Club members are allowed in pit-lane for insurance purposes so no one gets hurt without coverage. As noted in ROAR rules there is no smoking permitted within 50 feet of fuel. Smoking is not allowed in pit-lane. Pit crew and marshals must be wearing closed toe shoes. No sandals are allowed in pit-lane or marshaling positions. No exceptions.

Event ID numbers need to be on cars for tech and scoring (typically located on back wing) - you will see your ID number next to your name on the heat board.

Food and beverages will be located near the tire truing station, and supporting a local Boy Scouts of Northwood.

Scoring monitors will be available in pit-lane as well as one near scoring area on mains day No people allowed in scoring area unless scoring/announcer allows Toledo club members.

And finally, we are racing under extreme conditions due to COVID-19. We are blessed with this opportunity when many other activities have been shut down. Please follow all CDC guidelines. This includes mask wearing and social distancing as directed by the local government. Pit assignments have taken these directives into consideration.

We appreciate your attendance. Please enjoy the racing at this track and consider hosting events such as the GLC.

Here is a message from the One-Eighth Racers of Toledo President, Dave Willey.

It's almost time for the 22nd running of the GLC. I would like to go over a couple items. First, Wood County is under mandatory mask wearing when you can't social distance. So since we are running 7-8 people in heats and up to 10 in mains we should be wearing masks on the drivers stand and in pit lane. Second, the Northwood boy scout troop is selling food friday thru sunday they have requested anyone getting food to please wear a mask for their safety. Third, pit spaces will be marked on Monday. We have spent a lot of time laying these out to accommodate people who want to pit together. Please do not change names around without talking to a club officer. Let's work together in these uncertain times and have a great and fun event. Thank you for your time, Dave Willey
