should i build them dead or should i build them with some rebound?

Probably something you'd be better off just experimenting with. It's usually a matter of preference type of thing. Some people like them dead, some like a little rebound depending on the track surface.

some people like the spring alone to control rebound...others like the progressive damping feel a bit of rebound gives you. as mentioned, you have to try for yourself and see what you prefer.

I personally prefer no rebound in my shocks, but it all comes to personal preference and track conditions as to whether or not rebound feels right and is required

I have learned one very important thing while racing as part of the JQ Racing Team. Whenever I asked Joseph something like that, he told me "Try it and then tell me". That's the only way how you figure out what is best for you and for the track you are racing on. Good luck
