Because I, and most people, cant afford it? If i had a $600 budget and had to choose between an OS and 1 set of tires or the Werks and 4 sets of tires and a bottle of fuel, id take the Werks. Hats off to you if your happy spending $550 on an OS combo and still struggle to bump into the d main because your tires are crap, but i wouldnt be.

Gavel,
This is a project that I have put away for and anticipated on what the cost would be. So when I asked for what's the best engine for it, I didn't mean what's the engine for the money. I've always lived by the right tool for the job. Or all you do down the road is upgrade because you should have done it to begin with. I've also seen guys get smoked on the straight away like they were standing still. You can't tell me it's because of their skill or tires. They just plain got out torqued.

It sounds like you are more interested in non-racing uses, given your interest in straightaway speed. A couple of points:

-Higher prices do not necessarily equal better engine performance.

-Tuning needles and clutch, along with clutch maintenance are more important than engine choice. If you can't tune, then you're wasting money on race-quality engines.

If you're looking for a torque monster for bashing, you will have a lot more fun with a .28. They will have torque, priced cheap, and the best engine for your application.

One of worse engines you could have picked for Truggy. The WR7 engine is geared for buggy. If you were set on a Reds you should have got the R5T 5.0 engine. Truggies need torque.

The WR7 is the worlds engine that Mayfield ran all last year in truggy. I think it will work just fine.

I think the point that people are trying to make is that you couldve picked up something like this for $228:

You could've saved yourself $200+ and had an engine to "out-torque" everyone. When you asked for the right engine for your particular application, the most expensive engine is not ideal.

I don't understand the high and mighty talk that goes on about how one needs a $200 engine and not a $400. Well be proud of yourself that your happy with a $200 unit. This guy is obviously happy with spending what he wants and can. Get over yourslevels.!

Now can we get back to talking about the 4.0?

Yes! Move that to the nitro engine threads. Has anyone tried the 2017 Silverstate Phend Setup. It is dialed on my 3.0 truggy. I do not have the 12 degree casters or the hubs. Probably the best setup I have tried.

Which springs did you run? I see his prototype spring colors are the same as the HB springs.

I've had good results with Avid bearings. Affordable too.

I always run avid bearings. They are cheap and very good. Not the top of the line but good.

Seems like an honest straight forward question. But I wouldn't ask it here! Lol... your gonna get many different opinions on what is a good or bad choice for engines. Check what others at the track are using or ask your LHS. They may have a more straightforward answer. Although they tend to lean towards selling you something they have on the shelf first.
