Default New To Nitro - Battery Question

Hello all,

I was lucky enough to get a whole pile of nitro goodies from my cousin. Jammin X1 Truggy with Novarossi 21 engine and all the other things to keep it running.

I need to replace the servos and I believe I will get the Savox 1256 and 1257. Next up is the battery for receiver and servos. Should I go with 1600 mAh or 5000 mAh? Venom has some for a good price. Again new to nitro and 1/8 scale. Also if you have a better recommendation for servos please let me know.

Thanks in advance.

The 5000mAh is too large in size.

All normal fitting battery's are about 1500 up to 2200mAh.

Be aware the 12xx servo's are not rated to work with LiPo voltages (7.4). A good old NiMh (6v) is a simple choice or else a LiFePo battery pack (6.6v)

Run a 2S lipo pack with a 6v UBEC or BEC to keep your servos happy. You'll like it much more than you would an old nimh pack. Should be around 2200mah.

There are plenty of 12xx series servos rated at high voltage. (not the ones he listed)

Savox SV Series - High Voltage
Savox SC Series - Digital (Standard voltage 6v)
Savox SB Series - Brushless (Standard voltage 6v)

LRP makes 2200 lipos packs for car receivers in many different sizes..

LiFe is an overal better choice.
It is safer in charge and discharge and all servo's will run on it.

You may want to look at different servos. The Savox 2271 or 2274 can connect directly to the lipo and has enough torque to handle the Truggy's size and weight.

Thanks for all the insight and direction. I have 4 1600mAh hump packs that are pretty much new. Would these two mentioned servos the 1256/1257 not be able to support the truggy?

The 1256 will be able to handle the truggy. Its all I use. Ive had my 1256 servos for about 5 years and are still strong -all being used in 1/8

Not sure if this is allowed, but is this the type of Lipo battery some of you have recommended?

It is going to come down to the following things:
* what fits in your truck
* and what voltage your servos are.
* and charger that you have, it need to charge receiver pack: lipo, life or nmh.

I currently have the HiTec X4 Multi charger, which can handle multiple types of battery packs.
The Savox 1256 & 1257 servo's which I know can't handle the Lipo 2S from what everyone has said.
I will look at the compartment for the truck tonight.

I was just trying to get an idea as to what lipo everyone was talking about.

2x 1256tg would be better than using the 1257, the 1258tg is also slightly more powerful than the 1257.
I use the 1256 & 1258 in my buggy, 2x 1256 in my brothers, I'll be changing my 1258 to a 1256 for mine, a little extra power should be better. I've been running them on the LiFePO4 packs, 2s 6.6v, (Hobbyking), a little faster than using 6v & the battery lasts a fair while as well.
