a BR-6 pilot here found another tuning aid.. he drove with a original BR-5 pinion and gear mounted up front, with the center and rear staying as Br-6, diffs 7/5/7 which gave him some front drive, a bit like the JQ-guys used to do, mixing the V1(43/11) and Smooth gears(43/13) He says, the car was really transformed, a real joy to drive, easier, no sliding of the rear at all, super steering and the car can be made to rotate more easily nice to play with and to recycle those BR-5 gears.. The last time I did that it made the car I did it on sketchy. But, this sounds to do the opposite on this car... hmm |
All that by just changing the front gear? The rotatation and steering sound like its coming more from the 7 up front and 5 in the middle. Personally,Im getting everything you described with my car right now (:
|
in fact, the diffs are 5/7/5, with overdrive gear one should better have less in the front
with the JQ and that extreme overdrive set-up, you could really hammer the trottle early in the curves and drive like a crazy guy, trotlle full everywhere and the car loved it.. without any overdrive gear, the JQ car is really edgy so they all use normal overdrive but if you drove the car smoothly it was not good, so I guess it's best for drivers with a nervous triggerfinger |
Well guys first day if testing is done and i must say that im quite impressed with it!

On the JQ, a 43/13 and 45/13 are very close (less then a half a tooth on the pinion gear). Agama has the same thing and I almost always used a 43/10 front with a 40/9 rear which is even less of a difference in ratio. They also offered a 45/10 but that was too big a difference for me. Mugen and Xray make over drive gears also. But the BR-5 and BR-6 are too large a difference imo. |
sorry that wasn't clear..
the JQ V1 bulkhead gears are 43/11, the Yellow ones 43/13 45/13 is the center Yellow ratio jq V1 center was 44/15 so the JQ "extreme overdrive" gearing ratio is 43/13 - 45/13 - 43/11(V1) |

45/13 is the center Yellow ratio jq V1 was 44/15 so the Jq extreme overdrive is 43/11- 45/13 - 43/13 JQ = 3.9 and 4.3 BR = 3.3 and 4.3 A8 = 4.3 and 4.5 (45/10 and 43/10) |
I set the front end pull by using the center-diff. I been running 7k in the center because I like her to giddy up and go. Light center oil will allow more front-end tire swell and takes some drive off the rear.
Never messed too much with overdrive but I did test the new losi overdrive gear about a year ago. It sucked. Drove the JQ with overdrive and loved it. With the overdrive in the JQ, you could drive it like you either stole it or was pissed at it. Downside was frying the center-diff oil. Within 5 minutes it was done. On a side note, the biggest reasons I see for a car being loose or actually too loose to drive is a simple fact that some folks are using more engine than their ability can handle. A smaller and weaker engine will provide most people with less wrecks and much better lap times but everyone thinks they gotta have more. Sometimes less is more. |

Compared to what I learned to drive on all these cars have too much rear traction. When I started racing 10th scale gas truck was the biggest class. You had to be rich to even think about 1/8th scale.

I missed out on the 2wd show. I have driven some buggies that were on the loose side but then learned clutch setup, proper engine with a common sense throttle finger. Everything I learned came from David Osborne and Jesse Robbers.
These cars have adjustments so being tight or loose can be corrected up to a point. Actually my Intech is setup on the loose side when comparing the adjustments to most cars, but I've not had any issues with traction on or off power. So far, been impressed with the Intech. |
good day of racing yesterday, Had the rc pro series race yesterday. Was a stacked field. Finished 6th in the A. The car opened a lot of eyes yesterday. Had a lot of guys saying my car looked really good. Possible I could have finished better but our main didnt run till 8pm last night and it was freezing cold and my hands were going numb about half way threw the 30 minute race lol. Happy to say I did not break a single part yesterday on the e buggy or nitro car in those cold temps. The E buggy I sat 4th in the B main, After a few laps I took the lead but I choose the wrong tires and finshed 5th.

What shocks pistons were you using ? |
the stock 1.3mm. With oils I used 40 front and 35 rear in losi oils. But as it gets warmer around here I will go higher in oils or try different pistons. I also changed the spacers in the inner arms to the middle position. The only issue Im having and loosing time on the track is the way my car acts in the air during a big jump. It seems to be nose high. But it seemed worse on the e buggy. I messed with the droop and ride height slightly but it didnt seem to help. It was not the jumps either as other cars could get back on the gas after a landing faster than I could only because I had to make adjustments while the car was in the air. Im sure its a minor setup adjustment I have to make but have not put my finger on it yet. One theory I am thinking it could be is the stock body. Im thinking since it is so wide that its like a short course truck and parachuting. I bought a stock mbx6r bitty body yesterday at the track. It does fit but needs quite a bit of trimming. I was gonna order the FTW from Gene but I needed it asap becasue I have the 1st roar series race this weekend and need to get it painted
