Airtronics use to have a great servo that had great specs but it had an alum gear too and well it would always strip out. Just my 2 cents. You cant beat the price and specs of the orion stuff though.

i think the orion servos will hold up on a 1/8 nitro buggy not sure on a truggy though ,i read though they have alum and titauim gears in there servos,i guess it depends on how u drive if your smoother like me at driving i think anything will hold up if you drive hard who knows

I run the JR9100T for steering and the 9100S for throttle and no problems yet. Just running them off a 1400 mah hump pack. 8ight 2.0 Truggy

I am hard on stuff. I agree they will prob hold up in a buggy just not long in a truggy, and I am 100% positive someone will disagree with that so Ill disagree with it now. I dont like DNF's and I do everything possible to prevent them, sure I could get by cheaper and not replace parts but I like to finish and be consistent; therefore I am always looking for parts that hold up to the carnage that can occur in 1/8 scale racing. Just a side note I have blown up 8 JR 9100's this season, endpoints set correctly and not run on lipo, 6 of them were 9100s 1 9100T and 1 9100HVS (theis one was run on lipo) nLast year I ran 9100s/t all season long in an 8T and only went through 2. Just my experience.

For years I raced wit a simple Futaba 3001 servo on the throttle and a Futaba 9001 on the steer on my 1/8 onroad. People declaired me crazy but hey, it worked fine for me. OK, the step to faster servo's (KO) did give me a better feeling and respons on the car but the lower speed and low power on the old servo's did do the job just fine, afterwards I have used DS1013/1015 and now the Savox 1257

Today's servo's are insane compared with the specs from 15 years ago and the main question is does an avarage racer/basher need it.

Just go for the servo with good user experiences

Im going to go a hitec set up, running off a protek 2s rx. To avoid screwing up my battery is there a low voltage cutoff available, any recommendations?

I have the "older" 5955 and have been running it now going on year 4 with zero issues. And it takes direct lipo as well (many dont know that) same with the 985.

Good shoice on servo brand. One thing i have learned in my years of r/c, dont skimp on electronics. I dont run regulators or cut offs. Just to give you an idea. A month or so ago we had a 5 hour truggy endurance race. I was using a 2s 2000mah lipo running a 5955 and a 985, we did battery changes every 100 minutes (1 hour and 40 minutes) and still had time to spare. 100 minutes will last you all day at a race.

JR 9100t for steering and 9100s for throttle/brake. I use regulated Lipo and this is in my buggy. I haven't had a problem with them and I race with several other guys that run this same setup too without a problem.

I have had a lot of problems with 3 different models of Hitec servos glitching in my latemodel though. But I think 1/8 latemodel racing is even harder on steering servos. I see more of them go out on people at a dirt oval race than offroad. Set your endpoints!

I recommend the Hitec 7950 or if your budget isn't that high the Hitec 7955 for steering.

And for throttle I recommend the Hitec 7940 or again the Hitec 7955.

I have ran the JR 9100 series servo's and they worked great but developed some slop in the gears and wouldn't center back perfectly. Horizon fixed them free of charge. It took a while for them to fix them but in the end they did it.

Hitec is all I run in my Truggy. I run them on lipo and haven't had one lick of problem.
