I will agree that the losi 350 is a great engine for it's price iv tried it and it has great bottom and mid the top is a bit slower but u can't expect to get gold for nothing. I have heard a few friends that have gotten 10 gallons on one an I felt the compression and it was still decent but it was a pro drivers practice engine and he knew how to to tune good. In my first 2 years my engines wouldn't live past 3-4 gallons and then I got a ninja jx and was at ease and then a nova and was even easier, I found matching your engines with the same brand pipe works well like 2050s with ninja and 9901 for the nova made tuning simple. throwing on a 2013 or any jp pipe on a ninja just made tuning near impossible cause ur window was small. I would say stay away from piccos all my picco based mills were finiky and tuff and just wore out fast.

These are cheap, durable and easy to tune. What more do you want.

Dear all,
I am new to the rc nitro hobby and I am trying to learn whatever I can about nitro engines before I buy one. I will get the ney XB808 2010 and will race at my local track so its best for me to start learning stuff. I learned a bit from youtube watching explanatory videos on how an engine works and how to tune it but I dont know what to look for when choosing one.
What sould I look for in a .21 engine for a buggy? All I know is too much power is always bad!
Thanks for your input!

Every now and the these pop up on Ebay as some people are parting out the RTR buggys. I bought one for $75 a while back. Nice little engine.
+1000 on getting a cheap engine. My votes...
If your budget is:
<$120 - Losi 350
<$150 - Nova bf21 limited
<$200 - Werks B5
There are a bunch out there as mentioned, these are just the ones I have experience with and enjoyed.

This site shows it for $135. I've never shopped there, just the first link that popped up on google for me.
With the turbo head button (~$20) and the RE11 pipe (~$55) the motor has a very strong mid and top end charge. Bottom end is very smooth and you wont be lacking any power. Mine was as fast as anything down the straight but did leave me looking for a smidge more grunt on the bottom. I dont think you can touch it for ~$200 (pipe included).
