Dreaux, which track are you near in LA? There are some good racers in LA that are good peeps too, we race with them fairly often. I bet if you come up to them at a reasonable time (not in the middle of a race) and ask for help they'll give it to you.

If you out the piston in backwards it would run but WILL NOT idle, no matter how far you turn the idle screw in. Trust me, I learned that one the hard way. Seems to me the main problem is it's not leaned out enough.
+1 on going to the local track and talking to an experienced driver. Just my .02.
