Doug, composite in a truggy? I would think that they would just get eaten up fast?

Thanks again for help! I would likely quit rc if this forum didn't exist! So much helpful information!

I'm running mainly AKA City-Blocks Soft or PL BowTie M3.

What about 2 Dynamite + 2 Losi alu shoes? What springs then?

And I don't want my truggy to do wheely's. I only want slightly more aggressive acceleration :D

try a M2C one day....they are amazing truggy clutches...wheelies will be no worry with a stock engine...But what you will see is a very consistent clutch feel from beginning to end....We found the Losi clutch to be very soft and be very prone to fade during a race.........Now of course we run with real traction........

Well, I am a tire whore, but as Doug will attest to, the right tire can make a huge difference to how the car hooks up. Soft or hard clutch, if the tires wont hook up, it wont make a difference. Check with your fast guys at your track and see what they are running. If they run the same tires as you are, then keep playing with the clutch. As you can see from the difference between me and Doug's answer, there are a lot of opinions out there. Use them as a guide, but play with them all and try not to get frustrated. When you do finally get it, you will love your car;););)

On a loose track, 2 green and 2 black. It depends on how good you are with throttle control. I am a "little" heavy on the throttle, but even on high bite tracks, I dont do wheelies. I run 2 green, 2 gold and love it most of the time. It does have a lot of punch though.

Just to throw a wrench into this conversation, what tires are you running?

yes comp in a truggy, what do you think Drake runs? I get 2-2 1/2
gallons out of my clutch before they reach betweeen 23.4 23.5 range. you start putting a lot of stall in the clutch it will seem like its not aggressive enough because your just spinning your wheels for the fist 50 ft. start with a soft clutch then work up. btw i will NEVER run silvers on my clutch, gold is as much as you will ever need.

stock clutch works fine no need to move to a different clutch, not saying m2c isnt good just isnt needed. if its fading in a race replace your shoes, spring or reduce the spring tension.we have plenty of high bite tracks here i know what traction is like. btw dont you drive a serpent not a losi?

Frank L 08-06-2011 11:09 AM

I have used many different clutch systems and the losi clutch is my fav. The serpent is losi like but I wish there was a measurement like with the losi where I know the shoes are toast. The losi clutch takes the guesswork out of it and it performs well.

Doug are you saying that your measurement on the comp shoes is above 23.4 for 2+ gallons? I have had a buggy blow that # on the comp shoes with 1 race day and black springs on the comp shoes. Just checking.

yup. both buggy and truggy i get about 2-2.5 gallons. I was getting about 1.5 gallons out of my clutch until i swapped to the TKO special bearing a while back, and my clutch life went up. same story with my dad as well. I measure after every day of racing as toss it at 23.4 or before, usually slightly before. all i do with my shoes is spray them down with motor spray, clean the bell and thats it.

You would be lucky to get 10 minutes of track time with a Losi clutch on one of my modifieds...shoes are too light and slip way too much....... M2C is the answer ! try it sometime, you wont go back, that I promise ! now keep in mind we actually have traction where we run, so that may be why we need a stronger clutch system....We also run stronger engines as well....so combine high traction with big power and it eats clutches....

well ill NEVER use one of your modified, or any modified engine for that matter so ill never have to worry about that, there is no reason why someone needs a modified engine, if your bashing ok, but racing its to much

Same. After a weekends race I am at 23.5 on my composites on black in buggy. That's like a 1/4 gallon.

I was wondering the same. I love the feel of it on the track, but there short life span is getting costly.
