X4:nod: I used to use paper, but over the years I can tell if it's just right by the sound of the clicking and how far I can wiggle the cb.

I agree once you get a feel for what it should be, it's easy to do by feel. I still use a piece of plastic parts bag though. It's just easier and sets it dead on every time.:nod:

Softest to hardest out of those would be... Silver, Green, White, Purple. I know there is a chart of all losi springs in order with their rates listed floating around somewhere. Off the top of my head I believe it goes something like this... Red, Silver, Black, White, Gray, Purple. I may have missed a couple.;)

Did you ever get the shimming down on the rear end. I've tried a few times, but was unsuccessful

For whatever reason the mesh in the Losi manual doesn't work for my truck. If you are facing the rear of the truck I use 2 of the .25 washers on the left side and 3 of the .10 washers on the right side (half moon insert).

I ran the same ring and pinion gears for over a year so I am pretty confident in this mesh.

I've always wondered why the manual settings don't work in my truck. Maybe someone else could chime in with what they have found.

I raced my new 8T2 for the first time today and all I can say is WOW!!! I am amazed at how much better this truggy handled than the 1.0 that I had before. There really is no comparison to the way that it handles. There were so many times where I would have lost it with the other buggy that this one just kept right on going. It is just so much more stable. I am sold!

No 2 R&P sets will shim exactly the same. Even trying to use the same shimming for two different sets WILL lead to issues. If you shim them correctly, I think you will find that they are all a bit different.

I personally shim mine with almost zero backlash. In fact I do shim them with zero backlash from the beginning and when they wear in, I re-shim them back to almost zero. You have to keep them really tight or they will blow out.

When shimming them like this, you will get that notchy feel at least in one spot. This is fine, and will wear in with time. As long as it doesn't lock up the notchy spot won't cause any problems. I also recommend using a good grease like Mobil 1 red bearing grease on the R&P.:nod:
