Noob with an XT8...Need some help/advice with this thing please!
Hey guys I'm not new to Nitro RC's...I just recently got rid of my Reevo with VZB Vspec and I picked up an Xray XT8 truggy. I did MT racing for a while and now I'm switching to truggy's and just wanted to get some advice with this thing. Everything is new to me...From the steering setup to the throttle brake linkage to the way it sits. I mounted my JR z9100s servo for throttle/brake and I mounted my Hitec 7955 servo for steering. I have a new OS .28xz motor on order so I pretty much have it all ready to go. Just wanted to hear from some experienced nitro offroad racing guys about how to set this thing up? What mods should I do? What oils in diffs/shocks? How does the throttle linkage work? Any pointers on all this stuff would be greatly appreciated. Here's a few pics of my new ride....

Try to find a setup that uses the same tires as the fast gus at your track. If the setup sheet has the same tires then it should be close or at least a good starting point. Once you have something to start with you may have to/ want to adjust the truck to YOUR driving style.
As far as the brake linkage goes, it should be set to about 60% rear 40% front maybe a little more rear bias but a little track time will help determine that. Basically you want to have th erear brakes engage befoe the fronts do, this help you use the brakes to pivot the truck in the tighter turns. Use your end point adjustment on the radio to get the desired braking strength on the track.
For the throttle side at full throttle you want about 1mm (.040") of a GAP so any chassis flex will not stress the carb or servo. I also put a piece of fuel tubing on the linkage between the servo arm and the adjustment collar on the steel rod, this adds a little extra padding in case of flex and stuff like that. At idle make sure the linkage has a slight gap so that the idle speed remains constant even when the brakes are applied.

Wow thanks a lot Chris. Very informative. I actually have some new Proline Bowtie MTR's that I'll be running on some yellow 1/2 offset lpr wheels. They seemed to work really well on my VZB Revo on the track so thats what I'll be rollin with. Thanks a lot.

As a matter of fact, you might even find a setup or two for your home track! Xray's setup sheet database is HUGE!!!!

for starters you do not need a .28 engine...a good .21 will be easier to drive, more fuel efficient,and more consistant...I have a XT8 and I run a ws7x2 LG2, or a C6 bb7t depeending on track power is not a prb. at all with eighter engine. I run light digg fluids I run 5-7-3 and like the way it handles, as for shock fluids I run losi 45 and 50 weights. this is a very good truggy imo good luck with it

5000, not 500. Whenever someone gives you a diff setup such as 5-7-3, you can assume they mean 5000fr, 7000center, 3000rr. It always goes frnt to back. As for the OS .28, you might need to put a restrictor in that carb because it will have so much bottom punch you will be spinning wheels.

sorry, I should have been more clear on the weights. in my c6 I run a 5.5 mm venturi, and with the ws7x3 I run a 7 mm

whoa Jaz, calm down no need to get on him in his own thread, he is asking for help. and his o.s .28 could very wel eat up a jammin .28 and vice versa.
