HIGH DOWN FORCE WINGS
#76
No. Seriously now. I didn't get to do any tests today, but I intend to run them next week end. it's easy enough to run a few laps swapping wings!!

Anybody that thinks wings are for looks try removing it and do 2 laps as Unstable said .It makes a huge difference on any off road buggy 10th or 8th.Why would Losi put a extra wing on the back of the XXX cr??As well asa front wing. It all cost money to add things in a kit.
I make sure my wings are on the mounts as tight as possable so the wing is used to the maxium effect. If the holes get sloped out i buy a new one but that doesn't happen often.
As for hi down force i havent done any back to back testing yet on my H8 but i dont think they would make a noticable difference but i have bought 2 pro line ones as i like the look of them.(ads a little F1 look) i think.

ok, I would like to formally apoligise to everybody who has had to put up with the stuff i have posted
I would like to apoligise to the Team Cobra Racing brand, as well as Angelo. I have gone way to far, and feel the damage has already been done.
Also, i would like to apoligise to John K, as i know i have said some things that never should have been said on any level of communication.
Also to everybody who has had to read through the banter that i have posted. I shall not return to Rc tech, as i feel i dont deserve the priveledge for a second go

Dont you just love the internet. A discussion about high downforce wings turns into a slinging match.

I destroyed my Proline wing fairly quickly and i know you crash as much as i do. Right now i have an original Himoto one on and it looks like it wont last long. I have yet to try my JC concepts one but it is waiting in the wings...

just because the cars are scaled down, doesnt mean the wind is......speed is speed. the wind hitting my 1/1 car is the same wind hitting my buggy.
and put a truck and a car with the same motor, and same weight but different aero package going down the interstate at 40 mph one gets better gas milage

Not exactly... Any airfoil (even a flat plate) has an "angle of attack" at which it will "stall" (create turbulent flow over the curved portion) which kills lift (or in this case, since we are dealing with an inverted wing with the camber on the bottom) it kills downforce. For most airfoils, that angle is somewhere between 12 and 15 degrees of angle.

I switched cars again... found something that handles the way I want. (You aren't gonna believe this one... I got a Losi! I was afraid to try one for a long time!)
I suspect the JConcepts wing has less downforce and more drag than the Proline... and that the other one you have there (Is it a Himoto?) would be about like the Proline. The design is more like plain wing flaps on the JConcepts one, and like slotted flaps on the Himoto and Proline. More lift and less drag with slotted flaps. That's why the big birds (as in commercial jets) have slotted flaps (ok, fowler flaps that increase the wing area as they move back, but you could do that without slots) to increase lift with some increase in drag, but not as much.

I noticed a difference when switching from the stock wing on my losi to the proline HD wing. The wing made the buggy jump better but it also made it push in high speed sweepers. There is a difference. Now noticing a difference between the different brands of HD wings might be hard. The difference might be too small to notice.
I've noticed a lot of guys running some extra weight added to the rear of the Losi. My thought is that the high downforce wing has the same effect as adding weight on higher speed turns, but allows the car to still rotate on the slower, tighter turns. I could be wrong though.
As you said the car jumps really nicely with the high downforce wing... although a Losi is pretty good over jumps to begin with.
