Hi everyone :) My first post but I've been reading this thread for a couple weeks, plus other threads on a few other forums, and I've been watching YouTube videos about this truck pretty much nonstop since I bought my kit last week. I had RC cars and trucks all through the 90s and some of the early 2000s, but I haven't been involved for a decade or so and have never had a monster truck or a brushless/lipo setup.

I can't decide what motor and esc to get, hoping you guys could help. I'm worried about overheating my electronics here in Texas, especially since I bought 40 series Trenchers before I knew they were unusually tall. I read a post on URC where someone was saying you'd need a 1350 or 1400kV motor for a tire this big in the MT410 and even then you'd have to watch temps if you did a lot of high speed in deeper grass (most of where I plan to run is a grassy, hilly park).

I was originally planning to get the 1350kV Tekin RX8 esc and motor combo, but I don't see many bashers running Tekin, and it's not waterproof, which would be nice. But I do like that the esc is small and fits the MT410 location, also like that it's sensored, and that the motor is small enough to fit perfectly and not require dremeling, and that it will probably be no issue to fit a large range of pinions on it when winter rolls around.

Should I just get the Tekin and stay away from water? I've seen some nice combos from Hobbywing (xerun) but if I ever wanted to run 6S someday it looks like I'd be limited to their biggest ESC, and they don't seem to offer a low enough kV motor.

I plan to run the True Spec Premium 14.8V 6700mAh 4S battery.

I have the same LiPo :D

So it's ok to run a 2200kV motor in 90F+ heat with Trenchers? Also that motor is 42mm, will it fit with a 14T pinion installed?

Get Pro-Line Shockwaves or regular Badlands - Yes it will fit...I run the motor combo I sent you with a 15T

I wish I would have bought the Badlands but I'm stuck with the Trenchers, I opened them before I realized this was going to be an issue.

Flip them on eBay and get one of those two

Theres nothing wrong with running those tires, just choose a lower kv motor like 1700kv for example. The motor and ESC don't have to match. Keep in mind with the Tekin that it uses a direct solder on style connection for the motor wires, I would not like that at all. Castle and Hobbywing use a 6.5mm bullet that connects and disconnects easily. The Tekin has a smaller footprint so you can run longer motors (8xmm) with it. Here's some alternative motor choices.

Thanks guys, appreciate it a lot.

What does everyone think about the TP Power 4250? I'm considering their '8D' size (1460kV)

I'm not allowed to post URLs yet since I'm new, but they come up on a Google search easily.

TP makes good motors. That's 40x83mm. Using the Tekin ESC would be the only chance of that fitting. I wouldn't go that low on the kv unless you're planning on 6S use.

And actually due to the design of the TP motors, that would be pushing it super close on space because the shaft sticks out a few mm on the end and the wires come out of the end.

Awesome, thank you! I still have a lot to learn about this.

Mopar2Ya 07-14-2017 09:01 PM

bootbox, I run Tekin in most of my rc's. I have an RX8 Gen 2 w/a 1350kv T8 Gen 2 in my MT410, smooth as butter & plenty of power. 15T pinion is the smallest that will fit w/a T8.

You've already learned enough...you bought the right kit, the MT410 is an absolute beast!

I finished my kit built tonight! Picture attached, I can't inline images until I have ten posts.

I still need to paint and mount my body ('17 Raptor) - Going to try to do it tomorrow. Going with race red for the whole body, and black for the vent and bed. It's the exact same paint job IHasRC put on his MT410, but it's also the colors on my daily driver '01 Ford Lightning :tire:

I'm considering using the Pro-Line mounts (already have the replacement kit with just the grub screws and caps) drilled and tapped into the stock body posts for now, then ordering the actual SCT410 mount kit from eBay just to have in case I mess up the drilling/tapping or it breaks from being too thin after.

I wound up buying the Tekin 1700kV combo. I have a good time soldering, it's like mini welding

I'll have to send back my 14T pinion, don't know why I thought it would fit. I was finishing up my build tonight and noticed the manual even said 15T was as small as you can go. I went ahead and ordered a 15T tonight.

Looks like a nice upgrade, I need to pick them up.
