I had to do that to every Tekno kit I have built. I think it all depends on the center point of the servo.

If I am understanding you, you have made the left and right steering links unequal lengths? The left and right steering links should be equal. If the ackerman plate is not centered when the servo is centered, use the sub-trim to center it and the on the fly trim to make the truck drive straight. In an extreme case, I have had to alter the length of the small drag link to center the ackerman plate. But the links from the ackerman plate to the hubs should always be equal, if not the steering will be funky

The steering links are definitely different lengths now. One is about 1mm longer than the other. With the links the exact same length and the ackerman centered one front wheel has toe out and the other wheel points straight. I took the links off, remeasured them and reinstalled them but same thing, one wheel doesn't point straight. Not sure what to do as running the links at the same length doesn't give me straight wheels.

Anyone with a Tekin 4038 or other 42mm wide motor have a problem running the 15T pinion? I heard that in order to get the proper pinion/spur mesh with a 15T pinion and 42mm wide motor you have to run the motor body up against the chassis brace. This would not be desireable if true.

Anyone willing to guide me on which combo to go with?

1) Castle Creations Mamba Monster X ESC w/ Tekin Gen2 T8 4038 1700kv motor

2)Tekin RX8 Gen3 ESC w/ Tekin Gen2 T8 4038 1700kv motor

The reason I would go with the CC MMX is because its "waterproof" and I'm getting the impression from my research that Castle's ESCs are more durable than Tekin's. Has this been found to be the case for you guys? Does anyone have any experience with Tekin's new RX8 Gen3 ESC that could chime in? Thanks a lot for any input.

Having the Monster X, I think you'll have trouble fitting it on the chassis if I'm honest. At least when running a full 1/8 motor.

So I would probably splurge and get the Tekin instead. It's easy to wire in the Tekno chassis and it can handle any motor you throw at it. The old reliability issues of the RX8 were limited to the first generation. That's when a hard impact would often reset the ESC at random. it was fixed from the Gen2 and on. I've still got a gen2 that I've had for years and it's still my best 1/8 ESC.

Are you planning on running 4s, 5s, 6s or some combination?

Excellent info, definitely leaning towards the Tekin combo now. Thank you

If it's a combo of 4s and 5s then I'd recommend 1700kv. If 6s in in your plans I'd go even lower.

The Castle MMX fits just fine with a "truggy" motor and a 42mm motor can run a 15T pinion

Well every ESC is like that except Tekin.

which is exactly why I use Tekin for Tekno lol. I'll admit, I'd much rather use my Mamba Monster X or even the HW variants because it's a heck of a lot cheaper and does the same thing. But I just don't like the idea of cramming it in my eb48. When I eventually get an Et48 for bashing, I'll more than likely take the hit and buy a Tekin gen3.

0verkill, is your motor up against the center brace? Did you dremel anywhere to make enough clearance to get the proper mesh?

I'm definitely hearing conflicting information about 42mm motors and the 15T pinion. I'm about to start a build and would like to order a 16T pinion now if the 15T I have is going to require installing my motor up against the center brace.
