need help!!!

ok, i just got done running my t maxx. ran about 3 tanks. i noticed when i try to roll the truck in reverse, its kinda hard. forward is nice and smooth. and when you turn one wheel, they all should turn. but in the rear if i turn one, only the rears turn if i go one way with them. it used to roll so easy both directions. not its like the brake is on a little when i try to roll it backwards. any ideas? it dont make any weird noises when im running it.

Open up your diffs and make sure the gears are still OK. It sounds like that is normal stuff since there is no noise, but I would check just in case.

Also, check your driveshafts for any wear around the joints. I know those are weak points on the truck if bashed hard.

well it makes noise when i roll it backwards. not like clicking or grinding. but i noticed when its running i can roll it easier. i looked at the driveshafts, they look fine. aint opening up the diffs a big job? like having to remove all the suspension,arms,etc....

if i hold it off the ground and turn one side backwards at a time, its fine. but if i turn both sides at the same time, its harder. it drives fine.

ok, i just ran the after run oil in. then put the glow plug back in. i then used the ez-start to turn it over a little in case there was a little fuel still in the lines. i notice the spur gear shakes side to side and the truck moves forward just a tad when turning over the motor. it looks like the spur gear and driveshafts are like locked. but they turn freely.

A little out of order - run it til it will not crank over anymore. Then either siphon any remaining fuel out of the tank with your fuel bottle or turn it over holding a rag over the open fuel tank. Then do the ARO routine....

With it off the ground, turn wheel by hand and the other wheel on that diff should turn the opposite way. Repeat for the other end. With it in the air again, hold one wheel against you so it can't turn and turn the other wheel on that axle. The wheels on the other end should rotate in same direction as the one you're turning. This was how Misbehavin said to check the diffs for probs.

Spur gears on these have always wobbled. I assume this still has reverse??

oh, lol yea i do the aro routine like you said. i was just cranking it to really see the spur gear turn. it dont wobble from front to back. it turns perfectly straight. i meant when im turning it over the spur gear goes from right to left, left to right. i used to be able to spin the spur gear one way really freely. and it would make that like bell sound i posted in another thread. now i gott use force to turn the spur either way. it dont spin freely no more. but yea, i spun one wheel and the other goes the opposite direction.

well, i just took off the middle skid plate. everything looks fine. i even took off the spur gear. nothing wrong looking there either.

Check the clutch shoe spring while you have the spur off. Check the CB bearings and make sure the spin very freely.

well, i couldnt get the spur off completely. it hits the front of the motor. i just took the nut off, and pulled the slipper gear off a little and looked over everything. where exactly is the clutch shor spring? and cb is clutch bell bearings?

The clutch shoes are inside the clutch bell - when they expand, they bite the inside of the CB and lock it up so power goes from engine to spur gear. The clutch spring wraps around the shoes to keep them from expanding until engine reaches certain RPM. If that spring is busted, the shoes can drag and it may act like its locked up.

The clutch bell runs on two bearings and if they're done, that can drag as well.

Prob not worth checking as you usually have to pull engine, but when you said you had spur off, you would def want to check these out.

oh ok i see. yea, i mean the truck is fairly new. if it wasnt such a huge job, i would take the trans out and open it up. i mean it runs fine. and all the wheels spin like they should. its like if you spim one of your wheels, you know how it spins freely? now its like if you spin both the same direction, you can hear/feel it in the drivetrain.

wolf16731 11-18-2010 01:33 PM

Do you have a bit of drag brake going on?

ckblood05 11-18-2010 01:34 PM

is it possible that something just broke in or tightened up? because i remember on my rustler if i spun one wheel, it would spin freely. but if i spun both rear wheels the same direction, it would be harder and you could hear the gears like i can on my maxx. like i said, on the t maxx i could spin the spur with my finger and it would spin probably 7-8 complete circles. and if i spun it backwards like that, it would make a bell sound, spin freely a little, then turn the other way. its hard to explain by just telling it. i wish i could make a video. i thought about taking it to my lhs tomorrow and let them check it out.

i dont think so because if i roll it forward, even on the ground it goes good. its only if i move the wheels backwards. but not if i only do one wheel, then it spins freely. its if i do 2 or more at once. but they all turn like they should. the opposit wheel on that axle spins the opposite direction. and the other wheels spin the same direction.
