no complaints at all. the only trouble i had was installing the throttle limkage that is provided. i had to take it to my lhs so they could adjust it for me. you could probably do it yourself though. it is a good idea to purchase the big bore pipe that trinity makes with the engine because it boosts the power by about %20 id say. even when i put the pipe on my trx 2.5 engine, it made the truck do wheelies! the break in period is 6-7 tanks at 220 degrees max, but it goes by pretty quick since the factory settings are super rich. when you are done break in, lean back about 2.5 turns. ran it at my track for the first time and got in 1st. definately beats out the 2.5 and even the savages since their engines run way too hot. it is a good buy for any t-maxx owner. and i am sure that it can beat that os your friend has.

The Maxx driveline was never designed for the "BIG block" so failures will be evedent with this choice. I have to rebuild/replace my cvd's every month to six weeks depending on the moisture in the tracks I have to race for the series here in western Canada. The diffs will fail even with the siro .18 (real problem here). I had to build my own fix into the diffs, I ground the 4 holes in the crown gear to except 4-40 button head screws. All that was required was to drill the plastic basket to 3/16' and reliefe the inside of the diff case total time spent 1 hour per diff, last failure 3 months and counting and I now make these diffs for my customers with many happy drivers. As for the O.S .18 the piston and sleave from the siro will fit in the O.S block with no mods required. the siro has a shorter stroke than the O.S for more rpm but you will have to use the O.S head with the shims removed for compression. remember to check the back plate on the motor as the short stroke may put the piston into the back plate at bottom dead center. If I may be so bold if its power you want then look at the hpi nitro star .15, Made by novarossi 2.2 hp 44000 rpm, smooth low idle and great gas milage too.

Hope this helps.

ya i have the sirio .18 now and are about to get some fr and rr cvds. do you think that the center ones really matter or should i replace them aswell? also, since i am not much of a handy man, does traxxas sell and hardened diffs? i would rather just buy some than to screw up the stock ones.

Macnitty

The question concerning the diffs in the Maxx is a bit of a tough choice I'm afraid as Traxxas dosn't offer a hardened kit to replace stock parts. Robinson racing makes a hardened crown and pinion set with shims to set the lash better but this does not fix the actuall problem. The diff will break the four screws that hold the diff basket to the crown gear. The only other fix that I am presently aware of would be Engeneering Unlimited ultra light 7.5 diffs. if you want I can tear my truck down and get some pictures for you as the repair is very easy and requires little to complete. I hope this is of assistance to your racing Maxx.

P.S. Did you know that all T-Maxx's are born with an inherant need to seriously thrash all savages...

Have fun.

if you coud give me the address for the above item that would be awesome. anything to strengthen my drivetrain against my sirio .18. those pics would be helpful.

ok I got it now. I think the only difference is the colour of the head. The pico .21 is a nice motor but the last 3 I have done breakin on were full of filings when new. I recomend that anyone purchassing new should tear down and clean all components before turning motor over.
