^ You could get away with running less than 5000 mah and 40C...the important thing is fitting inside the chassis slot - unless you are making your own mount then you can run as big a pack as you want. more mah and C rating the more power/runtime you will have.

A 3s (11.1V) capable esc is a cheap upgrade and will really increase power and speed, do it if you can, the stock silver can motors will handle it.

ok so im looking for a bit of advice here. I want to do a big tire truck. clod sized not 3.8 I already have a rival. something that at least sort of looks like a real monster truck. I like the axial smt10 but its new and needs clod tires. I am a little weary of these trucks because the plastic seems soft. i have also thought about building one from a wraith they look great after a conversion i know strc makes one. So there we have it: clod or smt or wraith. I saw in a previous post someone had a pic of a clod and smt (jatotheripper?) next to each other which is why i posted here

To answer to CLod vs SMT vs Wraith question is tough.

There are things to be expected from a Clod - while somewhat "scale" in appearance, the axles and motors hanging down there don't look great compared to a well built shaft truck like a custom Wraith, or SMT, etc... The low COG from this setup is nice though, but you will experience much different handllng and the famous "Clod stall" because the dual motor/seperate axle drivetrain setup.

For full on bashing and performance, the Axial trucks (SMT or custom) will likely do better and be cheaper to setup and maintain. Don't get me wrong, I have like 5 Clod based trucks and they are great but it's more of a "thing" for me about the Clods that I have liked since I was a kid - A Clod and a shaft style MT is really the only way to go lol, one of each

I sure don't have an SMT-10 yet, I like them though. At the moment I am more into vintage looking monster trucks and have been using my old SCX-10 trucks as a base, axles and all.

Okay I got a Traxxas receiver and radio,but is doing the same thing,you cant press the trigger all the way down to go forward,or it will just stop going

Yep Clod sized...This one looks like a Clod at first glance but then you can see I used an SCX-10 frame and AX-10 frame, longer shocks, glued 12mm hex wheels into the Clod ones, etc... pretty cheap build really, compared to what some people are doing with shaft driven monster trucks today.

Thanks guys - Hopefully Tamiya does something cool next year for the 30 year anniversary of the CLODBUSTER!

What an amazing run, not sure if any RC will ever top that, and Clods are still just as or even more popular than when they were originally released.
