Shocks

I'd look into something like the dynamite shocks made by losi, or maybe Integy. All are under $100. They are pretty nice with the fully threaded bodies.

myclod 03-18-2002 06:55 AM

The associated shocks are great, i have them on my T-MAXX but not too impressed with the springs provided, BUT you can go with firmer Assoc. Springs and should be just fine

AO 03-19-2002 01:16 AM

What engine is best for my shock t-maxx..

My Old engine has died..

myclod 03-19-2002 03:44 AM

LOTS of Engines to choose from...probably the best deal going right now is the Megatech .16 rated at 1HP for around $100 and a Guy came into the Shop i work PT in the other day and had a plain 'ol OS.15 CV (~.56hp) in his jerking the front tires off the ground for reliability go with the OS .15CV or .15CV-R (1.1hp) if the OS isn't in your budget go with the Megatech by all means, in either case you will see a huge improvement if the motor is properly tuned

pitbull racing 03-20-2002 06:57 PM

Hi all

I just got my t-max and broke the motor in what temp should the stock motor run at for a back up bullet I bought a trinity picco 15

myclod 03-21-2002 04:51 AM

most Traxxas engines like to run in the 180-190 range now this is what i've seen recommended to many people, BUT here is the kicker....those temps are with Blue Thunder Fuel, if you are using Trinity (Which is a good fuel) the motor is going to run much cooler (i've seen as low as 145) and i have found that the Traxxas motors run better with the Traxxas or Blue Thunder fuel with a little heat in them.

Modena AL 04-12-2002 02:01 PM

Just got my proline suspension kit in! Can't wait to put it on. I'm going to wait until I can get some new shocks for it. I was thinking either the AE ones or the ones by Progressive Suspension. It will be running by the time school is out. :D

cantbestopped44 04-24-2002 05:12 PM

If I were to get one of those trinity Monster motors would you recomend the wild or pro. I really wanna go fast but also have runtime to play with. Ill be running it with 3000 packs. So which ones do you think are better (does the pro go a lot faster or wild have a lot more run time)? Also do the reedy bad maxx run just as good as the trinity?

Hello, I'm new to this site. Looks like a cool one. :D

I think some of the best shocks are these. If you wait, the pics will scroll. http://www.unlimitedengineering.com/shocks.shtml

They have awesome quality. They're heavy duty! Usually 1/8 scale shocks cost twice this much. They have tons of travel.

I put them on my truck. They are awesome! I tried AE shocks, then went to Progressive shocks. These OFNA shocks blow 'em both out of the water.

Here's some pics of my latest pride and joy. Don't let the cleanliness fool you. I love driving it in the dirt and eating up other maxxes on the race track.

Jarrod Langlois 05-13-2002 10:27 AM

i have broken a couple of rear body mounts on my tmaxx one the same day i replaced it. so i was think of replacing it with the powerline or trinity aluminum rear body mounts. but i was wondering if those would just be prone to bending instead of just breaking like the plastic ones do. if the aluminum ones will bend in a roll over then i will just stick with plastic because there cheaper. what do you guys think? ;)

myclod 05-13-2002 11:14 AM

Yes the big problem with Aluminum is bending...and in some cases i've seen actually fracturing the posts.....look at it this way...you can buy alot of stock posts for the cost of 1 aluminum.

ALSO one thing to look at is the RPM body post kit, it is plastic, VERY heavy duty and guaranteed not to break, and if it does send it back to RPM and u get a new one....it is a little pricey (around$15) BUT you also get a new shock tower in the kit...try them on for size.....

Jarrod Langlois 05-14-2002 10:15 AM

ya i was thinking the same thing. i could just buy about 30 bucks worth of stock body mounts, but i wasnt sure if the aluminum ones hold up that good or not because if they did i would just rather buy an aluminum one and have the good looks that go along with it. thanks

ALFRED 05-15-2002 10:13 AM

IF ANYONE HAS A GOOD PICTURE OF A CLODZILLA 4, I WOULD REALLY APPRECIATE IT. PLEASE EMAIL ME THE PICTURES OF THE CHASSIS IF YOU GUYS HAVE ONE. I CANT ASSEMBLE THIS KIT. :flaming:

TerraCrusher 05-27-2002 06:42 AM

actually t-maxx better or is ofna dominator better? or terra crusher.

Geetoo 05-27-2002 10:35 AM

Any of you guys know the performance of Tamiya Terra Crusher? How much does it run?

Modena AL 05-27-2002 11:24 AM

Got my new mulcher tires yesterday. As well as the Hummer Militia body. Last one in the hobbyshop...apparently they discontinued it. Looking for someone to paint a jungle camo paint scheme on it. About to get my pro-line offset dyable rims from my friend. Buying the proline suspension kit next week.

Project EMAXX is underway!!!!! :D

New Jack 06-01-2002 10:48 AM

I'm about to put some Modifications on my T-Maxx to make it race ready, Please anyone feel free to put comments or suggestions to what I'm going with to what I should be going with!!!!

Here's a few of the things I'm going with:

____________________________________
Change electronics (M8) radio
High TQ/Speed servo for steering, High speed for Throttle/Brake
Pro-line Suspension kit
.21 conversion kit from Robinsracingworld.com
O.S. .21RG (P) Pullstart
Hotbodies shock set
Full set of Rubber Sealed Bearings
Steel screw set

Did I forget anything?????
Also for anyone who might race @ Indy R/C world in Garland(Dallas) let me know what you think about Tire combinations & what weight shock oil!!!!

New Jack 06-04-2002 03:26 AM

ANYONE????????   :weird: :weird: :weird:

coastaltony 06-04-2002 03:34 AM

New Jack
What type of track do you plan on
racing your T-Maxx on?
I have been running mine on a parking
lot road course track for about 4
months.

It's pretty much a Blue Groove, Hard Packed clay!!!! I see most of the guys there running the stock tires to some Maxx Mulchers, I was thinking maybe some Maxx Bow ties might work!!!!

coastaltony 06-04-2002 03:57 AM

Sounds like it is a decent track.
First thing to look into are Traxxas
hard anodized aluminum pivot balls
#4933X. They make a big diffence. Also
look into an aluminum steering
bell-crank. Powerline, MegaTech and a
few others offer them. SMOOTH like
butter. Another quickie is Traxxas
forward only conversion #4994X. This
helps reduce rotating mass in the
tranny, and offers a low price hop-up.
:tire:

New Jack 06-04-2002 04:28 AM

CoastalTony: Thanks for all the Info. & advice, I will definately take it into consideration!!!!   If you have any other Tricks & or suggestions I'd appreciate them!!!! Thanks again!!!!!:D :D :D

coastaltony 06-04-2002 04:40 AM

The Traxxas parts & aluminum steering
bell-crank are the cheapest
performance hop-ups, get them asap.
Next is a damn decent steering servo,
the stock throttle servo is fine, for
now.
I have installed the new Pro-Line
suspension kit. For me on asphalt, it
is a major improvement.:tire:
As for shocks, I got a set of the
Associated T/E-Maxx shocks. They were
hard to find so I bought 2 extra sets.:deathstar

New Jack 06-04-2002 08:10 AM

CoastalTony: Are you satisfied with the AE shocks I've heard of people having problems with them & not caring too much for them, so they went with the Hot Bodies shocks or used some 1/8 scale shocks!!!!

TPhalen 06-04-2002 08:30 AM

coastaltony: Question. Do you have the annodized pivot balls??? Was just curious about why you thought they made a big difference. Don't have any (didn't think there was a need) but if there is.....

New Jack: I agree with coastaltony on the aluminum bellcrank and the new steering servo. I also agree with him on the AE shocks. I have them on both my E and T-Maxx trucks. It does suck to have to build EIGHT shocks, but once they're done, the work really good. I race my E pretty hard and not one failure yet.

I know alot of guys are going to the 1/8 scale shocks when running a .21 conversion on their trucks. I think that is my next purchase. I have a .21 conversion and it's fast, and the AE shocks work good, but if I need to change oil or springs or something like that, I have to do it FOUR times per end of the car. So, I thought I'd give the 1/8 scalers a try...

New Jack 06-04-2002 08:42 AM

TPhalen: I've heard of people running the 1/8 scale shocks & also saw the article in the newest version of "Monster Trucks" by Car Action, & am a little scepticle (sp?) of running just one shock per tire, don't get me wrong I know that is fine for the 1/8 scale shock itself, but what about the Suspension won't that put too much stress on are only of the A-arms!!! Just a thought???? What do you think????

coastaltony 06-04-2002 08:55 AM

Yes I have the hardened pivot balls
installed. Very smooth, compared to
the stock steel jobs. Along with
Pro-Lines new suspension arms, very
smooth, no slop. (the arms are
included with the conversion kit, BTW)
I have an OS .15 CVMax, and Factory Team pipe on mine, with 17 tooth
clutchbell, RRP 72 T steel spur gear,
and Treadz G1 pre-mounted slicks. This
is one BAD on-road T-Maxx:flaming:

coastaltony 06-04-2002 09:08 AM

I have 15 different
paints on this Ford body.

That is Alclad chrome
paint on the bed

I used 6 different
Parma Fast-Glitter colors
first
Backed
all the glitters with Parma
Fastblack
Pealed
the flame masks, and used 5 Parma
flouresent paints for the
flames
:deathstar
And added the XXX main chrome girlies.
BTW, I smooshed the whole truck down,
so nobody can go around me on the
track. I can't loose that way.
Actualy, I sent you a low res. image,
and the 16x9 flattened it out:cry:

New Jack 06-04-2002 09:34 AM

CoastalTony: That is one Bad lookin' Truck, I bet that thing hauls with those Slicks!!!!

New Jack 06-04-2002 05:56 PM

CoastalTony: Man, I accidnetally erased your last email to me!! It was titled Re: Chassis I believe!!! If you could recall & forward it to I'd appreciate, this time I will be careful with my mouse button!!!

TPhalen 06-04-2002 07:44 PM

The 1/8 scale shocks should work fine as long as you use heavier springs.

Gotcha, the ones in the Magazine article were the Kyosho White Springs which are firm, thanks for responding!!!!!!

New Jack 06-05-2002 01:42 PM

In anyone's opinion should aluminum suspension parts be applied also or would plastic be fine????

GreenRC 06-06-2002 09:22 AM

Plastic are much cheaper to replace if you hit something hard. Aluminum are mainly for show. If you're going to drive your truck alot stick with plastic arms. They may brake, but aluminum can bend if you hit something hard enough. Big bucks then!!

New Jack 06-06-2002 09:26 AM

GreenRC: I hear ya, I was just wanting to see if someone else's opinion was the same as mine, appreciate it!!! I couldn't agree with you more!!!!

New Jack 06-07-2002 03:24 AM

CoastalTony: I'm gonna check into some prices on some of the stuff you mentioned to me!!!!

New Jack 06-08-2002 02:10 PM

I am slowly starting to modify my T-Maxx, I have just bought as set of Rubber Sealed Bearings for it from www.teambluestar.com a Screw set from www.twistedmotorsports.com and the Pro-line Suspension kit!!! Still got a ways to go, but I'm atleast starting on it!!!!!:D :D :D

New Jack 06-09-2002 12:29 AM

CoastalTony: By any chance is the part # for the Aluminum Steering Bellcrank you mentioned before 4918X or is that not what you were talking about? I have priced the Pivot balls on Traxxas.com, but did not see a price for the Forward Only Conversion, I believe I can get that from my Local Hobby Shop though!!!! Thanks again!!!!

coastaltony 06-09-2002 04:46 AM

New Jack
:deathstar
Traxxas part # 4918X is an aluminum
servo mount, you don't need it (maybe
later for looks)
The 2 part numbers I mentioned are the
pivot balls & reverse lock-out
shaft:tire:
MegaTech purple aluminum steering
bell-crank, with BB is # 22058
Also check Powerline, Dynamite & H-G
for prices:nod:
I'm off with my T-Maxx
to tear em' up
:flaming:
