Corally Kronos XTR Thread

So, when it comes to bling, it has to fulfill 1 or more of the following criteria.

Just the ticket - nice clean shocks, axles and camber links.
I didn't use the shiny Cap head screws, but used hi-tensile black button heads, which are more in keeping with the rest of the car.
- It has to be useful
- It has to be shiny shiny
- Or carbon fibre-y

You know what? If you search for Kronos XTR review, this is near the top of Google results. So whilst no one is commenting, people are arriving at this page and having a nosey.
RCTech is quiet lately unless there's something to argue about - and that's a shame.
The Internet of things has changed and people are choosing to express themselves on other kinds of social media instead.
I prefer forums over Facebook. I don't do Facebook. I won't do Facebook.
Nor twitter. Or Instagram.
YouTube has become the main go-to for RC related stuff these days as less and less people enjoy reading.
RCTech has been a great source of info for the best part of 2 decades. It was brilliant while it lasted! The forum is only as good as the people that contribute.
That all being said, this Kronos XTR is a very good rig. Lots of fun to he had here. Insanely quick.

The Kronos/XTR 6S and Kraton 6S are both 1/8th scale rigs. 1/8th Trucks usually have better power to weight ratios and being lighter, are more agile too. So yes.
That being said, the stock motor/ESC with TC Kuron/Torox is notably quicker than that supplied with Arrma. To such an extent that a Kronos on 4S is about as quick as a Kraton on 6S when both are using their stock electronics.

Personally I like fast RC's like most people but I want them to be be able to handle the power they have stock or modded so it doesnt flip over, spin out or flip sideways when heavy on the throttle. Kronos/Punisher 6s on some youtube videos seem to have (uncontrollable) power so its a challenge to drive them.
If the last 25% on throttle easily flips the truck so throttle have to be squeezed softly and at certain times only its not for me.

On 4S, the truck would be more driveable, especially if you're heavy on the throttle. It has to be easier on the drivetrain too.
However, 6S is what I signed up for and thus far, the truck lives. It's bonkers, but that's OK! 🤣

Im actually considering picking up the new 2022 XTR myself instead of a Kraton EXB. The only bummer is I can't seem to find a chassis upgrade. An M2C 4mm 7075-T6 would be perfect for this rig and then Im sure I could leave the shock towers alone and it would do just fine with some harder bashing. Im planning on going with the HobbyWing MAX-6/1650KV Big Block 6S combo combined with the new Reefs 900 Smart Servo.
I know this sounds a bit overpowered but I never plan to run the truck on 8S, 6S only using the larger electronics to simply stay cooler throughout the running. I also plan on keeping gearing around factory default despite the lower KV motor, perhaps Robinson Absolute 14T pinion and thats it. Ive heard these trucks have very high internal gearing and so gearing up is simply going to overheat your electronics.
I want this truck to be what my Kraton EXB never achieved - TRULY reliable at all but the very hardest bashing. If I can jump 10-15 feet high, do a backflip, and come down without constantly breaking parts, I will be satisfied. Ive also already seen people fit Kraton EXB rod-ends to this truck to solve snapping issues.

I have videos of all of those trucks on the channel doing 10-25 ft double and triple backflips without breaking. And they're all completely stock.
If you don't land it though, well, that's not the truck's fault.

I gotta admit, I don't follow. Every RC truck will do 10 foot high backflips nonstop. I own every current 1/8 6S truck (Savage X Flux V2, Erevo 2.0, Kraton EXB, Outcast EXB, Kaiju, Rival MT8, Kronos XTR, Notorious V5, Dementor V2, Punisher V2) and the only ones that wouldn't were the 2021 Corally's. The 2022's will.

If you don't land it, then the problem is not the truck...

However, the fact is none of us land perfectly every single time. None of us are professional racers and you yourself admitted in the review that you have broken several parts already. Nonetheless, it still seems like a very capable truck overall and at a good value as well.
But, some people have already bent the chassis and so the question has to be asked - why didn't they just go with 4mm on the chassis? Literally 1mm more material and Im sure it would be fine for basically everyone. Of course it did take a fair bit of force on the chassis for those people to bend it but the jumps weren't that high - under 20 feet in all cases, probably closer to 15 feet or so.
The problem seems to stem from the overall chassis shape. It gets incredibly narrow going from the main body out to each end where the diffs are mounted and of course in pretty much every case, the chassis bent in this "neck" area. Had it been a wider neck or a 4mm thick chassis, it probably wouldn't have happened.
All it takes is landing nose-first, even if the angle doesn't seem too severe, the front tires hit first, bottom out, and then the rest of the truck follows and slams down the rear end. This front-end bend then jams up the steering as the steering rack is now jammed up, bent at an angle.
I am sure I could get through on the stock chassis for a while considering I don't plan to bash it quite as hard as those who have bent it, but it would be nice if there was a 4mm 7075 chassis option available. I hope that Mitch with M2C Racing sees the growing popularity with this truck and develops a chassis for it. Because honestly with an M2C 4mm chassis on the truck would be pretty amazing and damn near the ultimate Monster Truggy basher.
As the main plate that everything is mounted to, a reinforced chassis inherently strengthens the entire truck. Being less prone to bending/flexing, the diff housings/bulkheads are less likely to flex, the driveshafts are less likely to flex, the shock towers are less likely to flex, and the tower-to-tower brace is less likely to snap off.
Im quite torn because Jason Deardon at Arrma recently commented as part of a post he made, saying that a new 4S lineup is scheduled to release this Summer. Also, people have been quite upset with the mistakes made in designing the EXB drivetrain, and so most Arrma fans are expecting a Kraton EXB V2 either sometime in 2022 or 2023.
So I'm honestly wondering if this truck would be a more suitable basher or if perhaps waiting for the new version of the EXB would be a better idea. Its honestly quite a tough choice between the two trucks.

It's great to see Razor RC here - I'm a long-time subscriber and like your reviews.
I love my XTR and the newer 22 model will be even less likely to bend with the upper chassis braces.
However, M2C is the go to chassis for all the Kraton bashers, so it makes sense that Kronos is catered for too. It has a growing popularity and let's be honest - it's a great truck. In fact given the option, I chose the XTR over the EXB. In due course, I'll probably get an EXB as well.
Getting a chassis upgrade for me likely isn't that big a deal for me because I'm far to easy going on my rigs! Lol.
M2C won't take long to bring out upgrades for all you extreme Kev Talbot wannabes.
You can bank on it.

Well I certainly don't bash like Kev does at all lol 🤣 way tok expensive to do that. However I did begin to slightly bend my old Kraton EXB (now sold) chassis over time. It took a while and some fairly large jumps to do so but it did eventually happen. Perhaps Ill hold off for now and see if M2C released a chassis for the Kronos XTR 2022.
By the way, I was referring to the new 2022 model, several people have already been them.
