I used to use those for front and rear. They gripped so much better then any other rubber tire and I tried all of them.

Not sure what you mean here....

He is saying he buys whole cars for the tires, what are you referencing? ;)

I'm talking about the grip of the soft wide HPI rubber tires.

No tires at either currently. At least no rubber tires.

Tires is one reason I stopped running my MRS4; you literally cannot find consumable parts for this car unless you get lucky on e-bay or buy a roller. Oddly enough you can find wheels! One consideration is M18 rubber tires; they might work but I never tired.

Guys, any tips to free up the drivetrain? I have checked bearings, made sure nothing is cranked down too tight, adjusted mesh, and I still have a car that won't roll freely. Do the RS4s have a "tight" drivetrain?

DLS II 08-30-2012 04:48 PM

Move the motor away from the spur and roll the car across a smooth floor. It should roll freely. If not check bearings,belt-everything. On another note-the xray rubber tires look like they will fit. Part #389640. Don

That's weird. I never had that problem it could be
Gear Mesh
New Belt
140mm belt on a 150mm chassis
I'm out of possibilities

adanmtxt1 08-30-2012 06:26 PM

Make sure you're running the right belt.

Otherwise, remove the belt and spin the front and rear differentials. If they spin freely before a belt is added but are bound afterward, the belt may have become stiff over the years. You might be able to soak it to make it more flexible.

Went over the car. It's the front diff. Trying to loosen it up now. It's the stock front diff and it is currently very notchy.

It also looks like the front pulley is clogged up with gunk. Going to clean that all out. Can't wait to give this car a whirl! Pieced one together with a 2S lipo, HPI mod brushed motor, Hitec MG mini servo, LRP speedo, and a receiver for my FSGT3B for $85 total. Just waiting on the speedo!

EDIT - This damn front diff is too tight because the diff collar (diff frame) crushes it closed! Trying to figure out how to make this not happen. Seems to me I am out of luck. Not sure why they would have designed the front diff to be so tight on the RTR. Maybe mine is just out of tolerance. Who knows.

EDIT 2 - Cleaned it up, got it rolling nicely, and proceeded to plug everything up again with dust/hair in under 15 minutes. Not fun so far. Wasn't impressed with performance either.

EDIT 3 - Picked up a used Losi 1:24 Rally, couldn't be happier.

I loved my Micro RS4. It worked well for drifting.

I then got a m18. That is also an amazing micro as well.

DLS II 09-19-2012 01:28 PM

I'm building a MRS Micro. I know the biggest kit supplied pinion is a 13T. How big a pinion will the stock 180 motor take? I have on hand motor heatsinks if needed. Don
