I got some good laps in on both my Box Stock and Stock cars last night and this morning and posted some new times in each.

My Box Stock car is running great though I am still a bit concerned about the motor temps but so far they have not seemed to have affected the performance of the motor. Both the car and I were feeling pretty good last night so I went for a really fast run, I cleaned and lubed the motor and used cells that were HOC and laid down a time that was 9 seconds better than my previous time which I though was pretty decent. With the limited power it is really important to hit your marks because you just don't have the power to make up any time.

I had a hard time with my Stock car last night, being a rear motor chassis you have to be so good about getting out of the throttle if you want to turn. We also had the AC on last night and you can feel the difference in traction when it is on. Last night I changed from 1* offset fronts to 0* in the hopes to get more turn in and it helped a bit but I was just not consistent and ended up in the armco a lot. This morning was a different story and I felt really good and put down a time that is a full 12 seconds faster then the previous time I had posted and just a couple tenths off my Pro-Stock time, the car was on fire banging off 6 consecutive laps of 4.91s and only had a couple errors during the stint. It really is amazing how important it is to stay on your marks.....as soon as I got lazy and started chasing lap times I started drifting further away from my marks and laps times went up, as soon as I slowed down and concentrated on hitting my marks the time would drop.

Cheers,
Jim

Just had a great run with my Pro-Stock car.the car is feeling pretty hooked up these days breaking a a lap record for me with a 4.50s lap. I still battling traction under throttle and wondering if going to super soft rears would help?

I am also having a problem with this car and LapTracker as it keeps missing a lap or two, on this run it was only one lap it missed but still annoying. I think I will delete the app and then re-load it.

Anyone else running?

Cheers,
Jim

I am working on my track parts.
Trrying to find out what to throw away and what to keep.
Then figuring out what ty sell, since I don't have enough space.
Going to keep Mini-96 + Expansion + some wide inner turns

I got some laps in last night and both the cars and I were feeling pretty good.

On my Box Stock car I went mounted up the 458 body and immediately went 10 seconds faster then I had gone with the 599. I thought I had gotten pretty consistent with the BS car so I am not sure if I just got lucky or if the 458 is faster then the 599. I will do some more stints and see what happens.

On my Stock car (90mm RM) I was still looking for a bit more steering so I decided to go with softer springs (Kyosho Purple -> Kyosho Magenta) and while doing so I figured I would clean the "shocks" in the damped front end and put a drop of 30wt shock oil on them. The car felt a little better and proved to be fast, in one failed attempt I got into the high 4.5's as a fast lap. I have to say that the work I have done to stop the traction rolling has totally payed off, the car keeps getting faster and there is not a hint of a tendency to TR and I did not have to put glue of the front sidewalls.

Cheers,
Jim

Audi R8, Ferrari 458 and McLaren 12C i all faster body's than Ferrari 599.
Audi R8 and Ferrari 458 was equal in some testing
McLaren 12C could be even faster than those two.
But all these tests are for 2wd Unlimited and on 100cm and wider tracks. So might not be all correct towards Mini-96.

But the Mini-96 is between 17 and 17,5 m track length.
With other than box-stock or stock, how would your driving really improve?
Yes you get laps and therefor it will benfit you, but other than that, your tuning will not be very good for a larger / faster track.
The other way round seems too me to be better. Tune your car on a large / faster track and then run it on a small track.

But I am no expert and the good consistent drivers don't seem to mind so.

I can speak from experience. I've ran hundreds maybe even a few thousand laps on my 96 track. Going from this to a larger track it helps with car placement witch is huge for this scale racing because of the ping pong effect. When I ran the race at rc car world it felt good to be able to hold full throttle for longer than half a second. Only thing I had to tune was tires and gearing nothing more. Springs front and rear and oils were the same as my home track and i ran times equal to place me top 5 in the a main.

Most of, mini96 track is only real option for practice.

Sure, being able to practice on big track is best option if that were run most. But most of us don’t have permanent tracks to race at. Track might be only available day of race. Or for the smaller clubs, maybe on a Friday night for a Sunday race.

As I’m still running basically out the box cars in all classes, I really only change the steering going from small to large track.

It is interesting on bodies, there were a couple guys on FB who say the 599 is faster then the 458. I know for sure that the body alone did not account for the full 10 second difference. As far as feel goes the 458 feels a bit more "edgy" then than the 599 but not a huge difference.

On tuning for big vs small tracks I have my thoughts. When I was younger I proved to be pretty quick at Auto-X in full scale cars and I also did some track work. The set up between the two where not very different, basically I could get away with a more aggressive set-up on the Auto-X course because the speeds were lower. When I went to the track I would add a little bit more rear toe for a bit more stability and that worked for me. I have zero experience running the Mini-Z on anything other then the Mini-96 track but I literally have tens of thousands of laps on the Mini-96 track and I can tell you that all these laps have given me the ability to place the car pretty accurately and if I can keep the car off the armco's on a 600mm wide track I should have a pretty easy go of it on a wider track? All these laps and my desire to turn a faster lap has also taught me how these cars behave to different set-ups and I am betting getting on a big track I will feel that my Mini-96 set-up might be a bit aggressive because of the higher speeds but I should have a pretty good handle on what I need to do to tame it down.

I personally think that getting good at anything is all about repetition and the more you do something the better you will get. I am constantly changing stuff up to see the effect and that will hopefully allow me to figure out what I need on different tracks. Once the summer is over I am hoping to get to run on some larger tracks.

One other thing, having a "coach" is a huge help to get you started, back when I was racing full scale I ran a first generation MR2 and there was a local guy who raced MR2's at a much higher level who took me under his wing and taught me a huge amount. The same can be said for EMU with my Mini-Z's. Without him my learning curve would have been significantly shallower.

Cheers,
Jim

Same can be had for me running 1/10 scale and now miniz tommy lane was a big help with telling me what is needed to look for and keep an eye out for that I've helped the new guys as much as I can with radio settings to soldering lil issues on there cars

Just posted a new time with my Box Stock and my Pro-Stock cars. Both cars were going really well but my Pro-Stock car was particularly well hooked up. During warm up I turned a 4.21s lap and then during my stint I went 4.25s, a full quarter second faster then my last fast lap. This was a super fun drive with the car slithering on throttle exiting turns and just shredding laps.....

cheers,
Jim

oh come on guys....
Of course practice helps.
Practice always helps.
Why wouldn't practice help.... That's why I want in on this challenge.

About the bodies, check PNWC and what are used by the top 5 guys in each category.
Use that as a reference and then apply your own driving style and setup. Then you can find a body that is best for your driving style at the moment.

Hello All,
Sorry for being MIA, been pretty darn busy the last few weeks which has been great.

With that said not a lot of action this month, I knew that summers would be hard but I do expect to see more participants once we get into the fall.

With that said get your times in if you run and I will get them posted up.

I am seriously thinking of going to the smooth side next month just because that will get at least two other to join us.

On a personal note I sold my GLA and have ordered a GLR so I am looking forward to seeing if it will retake my track record which is currently held by my Pro-Stock car.

Cheers,
Jim

I have been playing around with this layout plan c I just put down yesterday and it's fun and a lil technical to the point if u get to cocky it punishes u

Edit just for the record after running it trying to get some time on it I hate it lol. To tight for miniz. Maybe dnano or coke can cars https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...dccd69068f.jpg

Ok I did some messing around and started to see witch layouts can be done on a mini 96 and it seems to be that the 96 track consist of 2 wide L tracks I was able to put layout #15 down and had 16 straights left over that I put into the center section. Made for a fun layout and fast and my cars with some more gear and timing were fun to mess around with. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rct...1c514d9728.jpg
