Bravokilo

Thanks a lot for your advise.. incidentally I was much tempted to make the purchase of the RC100 electronic switch over the net.

Achtung Stuka

I promised mang Bert that I would sign up for membership in my next trip back to manila, still in HKG at the moment but will surely drop by someday, wala pa lang schedule.

I've been to the new field at Niog, I think you'd be at a risk taking off and landing (your giant scale aerobatic gas planes) due to the position of the runway. The length may seem enough but at the end is I think a creek with very tall trees and on the approach for landing your crossing the street which is perpendicular to the runway and elevated about 10 feet, meaning you can't make a gentle low approach from a distance. But better yet, check it out to see for yourself.

Thanks for the advise on the Kill swith. I finally decided to get the RC100 electronic switch sold on the net by RCATS. If I'm not mistaken I recall you had an instance with your giant Cap 232 wherein throttle was stuck and you could not land it until fuel ran out. It's in situations like this where this electronic switch is usefull since you can cut off the ignition through your Tx, the device is attached to a spare chanel on your Rx. You might want to check it out and have one installed in your giant gas planes. It's installed in series with a mechanical switch for added safety.

Noted louie_B. Hope you could finally join us.

TotiD.. Louie's description of the field is quite right.. actually, it depends all with you. I suggest that you visit the field first and see if you want to try it out. Actually, the 'trees' at the end are bamboo and are about 20-30 feet in height.

The field's orientation is East to West with the bamboo at the east side of the field. Prevailing winds generally come from the Eastern section of the field (from East to South East).. after 9am.

Takeoff is usually towards the East and with a left turn executed almost immediately after take-off to avoid the bamboo.

Approach is made from the west crossing an elevated concrete road (approximately 5ft high) and some degree of turbulence is experienced during windy days... and the degree of turbulence is proportional to the wind at ground level.

I would consider this a 'carrier type' landing for big aircraft since your final approach would be slightly above idling as you come in.. and chopping completely when you cross the road .. ala 'Manila Domestic Airport' or 'Mactan International'...
