RC CrewChief Software

I just received a copy of the RC CrewChief software and used it to compare silvercan vs brushless motors (image 1) and then simulate a Tamiya F104 acceleration contest between the two motors (image 2).

While 21.5T has less rpm, it has more torque. And in the acceleration test, it beats the silvercan on simulation.

I did quick assumptions on certain parameters. Real test is still to run on the track. However if simulation holds true, 21.5T will not be allowed for 2013.

See you tomorrow!

theories can be proven wrong. the comparisons made weren't on actual even grounds. why don't we compare a formula tuned motor with a hobbywing 21.5t 1600kv bl? this would be on almost even output numbers. can anybody here say that a formula tuned motor can outrun a silvercan?

in the last club race, i tried using the formula tuned on my 104. yes, i was accelerating quicker exiting turns but the silvercan was right behind me by an inch lang rin. in jp raceway's straight, i doubt that a formula tuned can outrun a silvercan...i have proven this to myself otherwise, with 50 laps to prove it, and those who overtook me again and again can say the same thing, especially mr colico who has been pushing me to run quicker 'coz i was slowing him down. running the formula tuned can probably be the closest thing we could get to running 21.5t bl. stating that 21.5t bl motors wil be faster than silvercans can be very misleading as there are a multitude of varieties in kv ratings for bl motors. assumptions are not welcome in experiments, and as i was told, we are still in our experimental stages.

i would be more than glad to perform experiments needed for comparison. but if there is already an existing prejudice against bl systems and all efforts will be futile because of this prejudice then i am just wasting time and money on this matter.

See you tomorrow!
I'm open minded on brushless, "real test is still to run on track." Wanted to stress that it is just not about KV rating or maximum rpm.

I did not allow the Tamiya 30T FL Tuned. On track it was noticeably fast. The Tamiya 32T formula tuned was allowed as track testing shows it is not faster than a silvercan. But despite being a slower motor, it is used on the FGXs and can run a competitive mid A-main position. The silvercan overheats in the FGX, the Formula Tuned allowed racers to run the FGX without burning motors.

The maximum length of JP raceway is around 30 meters, with most corner to corner around 10 meters or less. Acceleration in such short distances must be factored in the track testing.

Also to be factored is the efficiency of brushless in a 15 minute race (e.g. how fast it is compared to a silvercan from the 8 to 15 minute mark of racing).

Would be happy if my theoretical assumption can be proven wrong. I don't mind moving forward in technology and giving racers more options.

P.S. Hobbywing 21.5t 1600kv looks promising and will probably pass our criteria. I leave it up to hobby shops, manufacturers, individuals to take the initiative to prove their system of choice and have them approved.
