Sorry to say that due to the rain making it's way through now todays races are cancelled. Next week we will have open practice on Wednesday and our Season Championship and BBQ on Sunday. Don't forget to bring the girls out for the Powder Puff Truck race.
Hope to see you at the track,
Tim and Donna

Hi All,
Well here we are at our final race week. We will have practice on 9/20/06 from 5 - 7. Hopefully we will see some of the girls out practicing for the Powder Puff race. Racing will resume on Sunday 9/24/06 with our Season Championship. The track will open at 8, sign in closes at 10:30 and racing will start at 11. Along with the race we will be having our annual BBQ, awards presentations, raffles and prize drawings. We will also have a rules meeting if anyone has anything they would like to bring up. We have had a great season and hopefully you can make it out to join us for all the racing and most importantly the FUN.
Hope to see you at the track,
Tim and Donna

Here is a letter I received from Shawn Palmer from Castle Creations.

Kansas Dirt Slingers,

I wanted to extend my personal congratulations to the club for many reasons.

Primarily for being a fun and family friendly atmosphere to come and race.

The (almost total) lack of yelling, grumbling, and basically “taking toy cars too seriously” is refreshing to experience. This alone has helped grow the club and track to where it is now. If you appreciate the car count in each class and enjoy having so many nice folks to race with, then you owe it all to your “kinder gentler” attitudes and actions. Each club has its own collective personality, and the personality of the KDS is warm, welcoming and helpful. It takes effort from all of us to maintain such a culture, but the rewards of continued growth and exposure are surely worth it in my opinion.

Everything that follows in this letter is entirely due to the above. Exclusionary, overly competitive and just plain unfriendly tracks/people will always exist. Fortunately for us, they will never reap the rewards we as a club already have.

I’m fortunate enough to know quite a few facts and figures regarding tracks and races due to my position here at Castle. I’ve talked a bit about this kind of thing with Tim, and he was surprised to hear it, so I wanted to take this opportunity to let you all know just how special this club and track are when compared to the rest of the country.

There are only a handful of events that garner more than “one shot” coverage in a magazine. Almost any race can get the media out to it, and then appear in some form in the magazine several months later. You can basically count events with the exception of ROAR nationals and such on two hands that have EVER had more than one year of major coverage from a magazine. The KDS are in the company of the 18th Nationals, Monster Madness, and a few annual “fun” races out in California . All these events share two things in common: 1) A great club filled with great folks. And 2) a great facility/atmosphere in which to race. You are in rare company indeed. Especially when it’s been said many times to me that “race coverage doesn’t sell magazines” by the editors/owners of the magazines themselves. To keep the coverage coming back, we have proven a fun and happy atmosphere that they WANT to be involved in despite the lure of printing something else. Pat yourselves on the back, because against all odds we continue to get the KDOC in the magazine, and it all can be credited to each and every one of YOU.

On a different level, when I see the average car count we pull during the season and compare it to what other tracks around the country are pulling, I get a figure that we all should be very proud of. Very simply, Checkered Flag Raceway is in the top 10% of all tracks in the country for draw. And this is regardless of vehicle type or racing surface. The national “average” average track draws around 40-50 cars per race. There are a ton of tracks in that range nationwide. There are very few however that draw any more than that consistently. With a 60 car average, we would be in the top 1/3rd of tracks. Above 60 cars takes us solidly into the top 10%. As a goal to shoot for – if we could average 100 cars for a season, we would be in the company of SoCal Raceway and a very few other similar “ultimate racing facilities”. Again, this is regardless of vehicle type, power type, and surface. The fact that we’re doing this all with electric power, an oval layout, and a dirt surface is just astounding. We very well may be the singularly most popular electric dirt oval track in the country.

Tim has done a great job in promoting not only the track and the races, but continuing to shape (and correct when necessary) the attitudes of the club members. I encourage you all to help him towards that goal. We do this at CFR because it’s FUN and we like the FRIENDLY competition with our TOY cars. With more and more folks participating, Tim alone can’t be the “attitude police” for everyone. I don’t speak for the club by any means, but a track and club without the good natured culture expressed by the KDS is not one I’d personally like to be involved in on any level. Personally or sponsorship wise. I’ve enjoyed every day I’ve spent racing at the track, and am sorry I’m not able to be there much more often. I certainly WANT to be. And that makes it much easier to make a little extra effort on behalf of the track and club towards securing other sponsors and direct financial help.

I’m sorry this ran a little long J

Again, congratulations to the club for making all this success possible just by enjoying a hobby we all love. I look forward to next year already, and hope we can build on our collective success to make the club and the track bigger and better yet again next year. And finally, a big THANK YOU to each and every one of you for helping create and maintain a racing culture that I’m proud to be a part of, and can look forward to introducing my son to.

Great season everyone!

Shawn Palmer

We had another great day of racing for the Season Championship here at CFR. We set a new track record for entries with 88 and 8 entries for the Powder Puff race for a total of 96. The day was a fun filled event that included racing, BBQ, awards and prize drawings. We have never had so many people watching a race as we did for the Powder Puff. We want to thank all the girls that raced and hope you all had a good time. It was by far the most entertaining race of the day.
We would like to thank all of our sponsors for this season and hope to have them join us again next season. Please remember them and thank them when you get the chance, Castle Creations, RC Driver, Team Associated, HiTec, Venom, Losi, Slick Zero, Ultraline Motorsports, McAllister, Pro Match, Kipps Hobbies, Temp Gun, Micro Fasteners, MIP, Diggity Designs, Eagle Racing Team, Heartland RC,
RC Zone Central, Hobbytown North, Comp-U-Sew, Mills Trophies, Matt Gorman, Clints Creations and McDowell Vintage Racing.
We would like to thank everyone that helped us out this year. Bill Hartpence for all his work on the track, Gary and Dianne Offutt for making the shirts and providing the concessions for the year. Rick Hartpence for taking care of the website. Big Clint for helping us out announcing. My sister Janet for helping when she could and my brother Mike for once again doing a smokin job at the BBQ. He also helped us out as a sponsor by carrying the track logo on his vintage car. A congrats to him for finishing 4th place in the points of the Show Me Vintage Racing Club, not bad for his first year of racing. I want to thank Donna for helping run the races and putting up with me spending way to much time worrying about the club and track.
Most of all we would like to thank all of you that came out and raced with us this year. The track that started as a dream has came along way in 4 years, from a 12 car average the first year to a 69 car average this year. Who would have known our little club and track would be featured in a national magazine not once but twice. We have definitely showed we are one of the strongest RC Clubs in the country and we thank you all for that.
We would like to thank all of our Season Champions.

So is it cooler then 105.... that was a little warm for as MN boys. Glad to hear the weather finely coroperated and didn't RAIN this last weekend.

Shawn Palmer from Castle Creations couldn't of said any better. "just how special this club and track are when compared to the rest of the country"

Racing and enjoying the hobby the way it should be. Tim and the guys that support the track have set a new bar for others to achieve.

Tim lets us we will be back in 2007.

Congrats to all the 2006 point series champs. Would someone Please pick a brick in front of Lennys ride.....lol Just kidding Lenny thanks for all your support this year. Running UL power I don't think the brick could slowed ya down...

It's a group effort for sure. You bet your welcome back next year. I see you picked up a new driver while you were at the KDOC.

CFR has saved if not helped grow racing in the KC area, it's nice to bring out what you want to race and be sure you will have someone to race with knowing you don't need the latest and greatest.

I see a bigger turnout next year.
