Not always a must. But since the comm will become trimmer after cut and new brushes are replaced, the rev and current drawn will change. I would usually measure the current drawn and revolution to get the optimum condition. Timing might need to be adjusted. So a motor checker is always working with the comm lathe.

Just my 2 cents
Thanks guys, I don't have those equipment to do all these things.

I just rebuilt the drive-train. Had loosened the rear belt tension. The drag on the layshaft is much less, but I found the vibration of the rear belt become bigger --- I think it is normal.

My ESC is a cheapy ESC (Futaba 330, no adjustment on voltage/power output). I think the 43T pinion and 115T spur should be OK. I will focus on charger/battery and motor. My charger is also a cheapy charger --- TLP 4 Amp max.

Raymond: Oh, I think you should charge at least 5~6A in order to get punchy batt...

What kind of charger you recommend, and price. See whether I can afford it.

Its easier to give you a list based on what budget you have in mind! The CE pitbull would be a good start at a little over $1000, but you also need a power supply.
