Until cops start fining bicycle riders these people will get a free pass.

Where I live there is a big chunk of the population that rides bicycles and they follow all regulations quite closely. We do have better infrastructure for them but the cops also bring down the hammer on them when necessary and often confiscate bikes. Also other bikers tend to be very vocal with people that do stupid stuff while riding bicycles.

There aren't that many people riding e-bikes and e-scooters, but these people tend to be a little less knowledgeable about traffic regulations but not to the degree of putting people in danger. Honking extensively seems to help.

@Sirsideways money helps quite a bit, also there is no environmental consciousness and people don't see the big picture. I mean up until the 90s people used to dump big quantities of garbage, like landfill quantities, in the sea. In touristic areas. Tourism business owners themselves. Part of the industry that generates like 25% of the GDP of the country. Stupidly shortsighted.

I was referring more to the shit that mysteriously goes up in flames and then gets bought over by shady ass corporations.... Not some crappy tour operators.

Technically, in the state of Comifornia, those ebikes are considered as electric motorcycles and need to be licensed. A true ebike has an electric assist motor. You still have to peddle it to get motion. The ones you see on the street can work either by peddling it or using just the electric motor. Fortunately, we don't have those guys screwing it up here. It's just the bicyclist who like to ride side by side in a bike lane, which means one of them is actually on the street. The end up getting hit all the time out here, but it's always the cars' fault, even when the bike swerves and hits the car.

@ ejtnt - fat chance of anyone on a bike getting a fine. my city is self proclaimed "bike friendly" they want us out of our cars and onto bikes. we've been experiencing "road diets"(taking a lane of traffic away to make it a designated bike lane) and shared lanes where bikes have the right of way. and the powers at be are hell bent on more of it, even though it pisses off the residents. is for, the cops and government won't do anything that may discourage anyone from riding a bike. so fat chance of anyone stepping in to bring order to the situation. we're just creating a situation where the people who were already on bikes (99% of them for recreation not commuting) are now full of entitlement.

@ OffRoadJunkie - everyone's got the self propelled bikes cause you don't have to peddle those. i couldn't tell you the last time i saw an electric peddle assisted e-bike.
and correct me if im wrong, but aren't e-bikes of any kind supposed to be limited to 15mph? no shit, i saw a kid (maybe 15/16) on one a few months ago absolutely FLYING! he was going down a street with a 35mph speed limit. traffic is usually moving a clip over 40. he was passing traffic! and not wearing a helmet.

and what pisses me off is, iv got a mini bike. if i go ride that at even 10mph while wearing a helmet. im getting busted. fines, maybe confiscation of the bike. possibly a court date. i know a guy who got busted for riding a gas powered bike. what's the difference between that an an e-bike.
