Has anyone ran the car on the old grey carpet? If so what is a good starting point?

Are you sure you want the lowest pinion? That range of gears that fit on the '17 with a 100T/64 spur was about 33T-54T. Haven't checked for any differences on my '18 yet.

I have read on some setup sheets something about flipping the FF holders up-side down and shimming them???.
What is the idea behind doing this change.
Also what is the general consensus on med grip asphalt... Standard or ARS. ? Has either proven faster and or more consistent.
thanks in advance.

I like ARS on asphalt in pretty much any level of grip, though I admit I have not quite figured it out completely yet. I think it will depend on your track on which is faster and/or more consistent, but I would think standard rear is more consistent.

Whose setup sheet did you see that on? I haven't heard of this before. If it is to lower the FF block, Xray makes a FF-Low option. They also make FR-Low: https://www.teamxray.com/teamxray/sh...92343c104cc2ca

It's about getting the FF front block to a 1.0down/0.5 out setting (same pin height, but narrower than 1.0 down&out), which you can't achieve on inserts alone.
The FF-Low makes it easier... but to get exactly the same pin height, you'll want to add 0.2mm under the block. (difference in pin height is 0.3mm, Low blocks are 0.5mm lower... why oh why!).
Also means can run same setting in FR (with FR Low), to take out the anti dive without adding too much sweep.
ARS.... IMO best suited to med-high grip flowing layouts. Tight and technical is not it's forte. Can be fast, but more difficult to get consistent.

Can anyone quickly tell me what spur gear I need for a 3.8 to 4.0 FDR with the Xray? Looking to purchase one today and I'm unsure of the internal ratio of the car. Also what brand spurs work? Please advise....
#509
Spur/Pinion x 1.9 = FDR
So an 88t (64p) Spur, 44t pinion will = 3.8FDR
88t spur, 42t pinion will be right about 4.0FDR
I like ARC spurs, but any spur with the correct hole pattern will work, which should be most. If you're unsure, just buy XRay.

Many other spurs can give you these FDRs as well:
With a 96t (64dp) you'd need 45-48t for 3.8-4.0 FDR
With a 100t (64dp) you'd need 47-50t for 3.8-4.0 FDR
Axon spurs work, but many others as well. Just none that only have a 4-hole pattern.
