Default FANTOM LATHE/GENERAL LATHE QUESTIONS

I am trying to track down a new fantom factory lathe. My local hobby shop can not get one as the distributer is out of stock. 1-2 month back order.

Does anyone know of a hobby shop or distributor that has one in stock?

If I can track down the fantom what else should I go with.

(I had an old twister lathe that was great lasted over 12 years..it was damaged in travelling to a race..I replaced it with a hudy lathe 1 year ago and I am less than impressed with the unit. I am not sure if it is the hudy bit or fact that it is a ball bearing lathe...my old twister had a carter bit and it was great.)

I too used a twister lathe for a while and loved it. You can always pick up a clone of the twister. I bought a Trinity Tru Lathe 1 for 60 bucks and was every bit as happy with it as I was with the twister. Although the Fantom lathe is probably the best one out there so if thats what your looking for go for it. Have you tried to contact fantom directly?

If you look you can sometimes find really nice used Twister Lathes. Normally under 100 bucks for them and they are still one of the best after all this time. Like fine wine they get better with age.

HI,

I loved my Twister lathe. it was one of the best ones I've owned.....so did somebody else when they "borrrowed" it.
then i had a couple of Hudy's, liked the "V" blocks way better than the ball bearing support one. now I own a Reedy lathe. I really like it (almost as much as the Twister). I'm using a ceramic bit and it cuts great. I ended up buying a 2nd one for 75 bucks with a Carter bit in it. it cuts about the same.
the Fantom lathe is awesome. I never got around to buying one aways a little short on cash when would show up at the LHS. but they do cut sweet.

Thanks

Default lathe

Stormer is out of stock.

I called fantom and as my luck would have it they will not have any units for about 1-2 months. I guess they make them in batches of 25 and they have to have 15 preordered.

I would hate to buy a lathe to hold me over until the fantom is back in stock.

I have been searching the net and I could not find one it stock.

I still have to call tq hobbies.

Any other suggestion on where to look. I would also like to stay away from any type of used unit.

Is the reedy one still sold? I did not see it on their website.

Hey jamie, Strasnick is trying to buy one now too. He heard from fantom that they are making a new batch and should be availible in a month or so.

I still love my twister lathe too! Its getting to be new bit time though.

What exactly is your complaint with the Hudy? Mine works great.I have the V-blocks though.I did have to do some tweaking recently, alignment was off, but once I got it straight it went back to cutting great.I thought about getting a Fantom for use at home and probably still will, but apparently not anytime soon.

As far as the hudy goes it just never cut as nice as my old twister..that was until it got mangled...lol.
