OK, thanks! I thought 5mm was the minimum legal ride height for USGT. Am I wrong?

Dang! No, you're right. It's 5mm on carpet, but the track I ran at, their min was 4mm for any TC at a club race. Sorry 'bout that - bad advice.

Does anyone know what size pin is used in the inner dcj shaft that rides in the spool out drives and where to get them? I measured mine at 1.8mm x 10mm, but I am not finding that size readily available. I have several worn drive pins and want to replace those instead of putting new drive shafts in. That seems wasteful.

Thanks in advance!

Had a first run on our low grip asphalt track and car has a mix of asphalt setups from petit rc.
Feels really loose on the rear, especially at corner exit (its more like a rallye car)....what can I do? Rear Diff 5k, shocks ~35wt with 2.5-2.8 front and 2.6 Rear (Xray)

I have pushed the pin out of one of my old ones. I was hoping to just replace the pin vs. replacing the whole shaft. I have to replace at least 4 of them, and have to do it a couple of times a year. Its a lot cheaper to replace the pin then the whole thing!

Thanks!

Try here: https://www.mcmaster.com/pins

more than likely the 1.8mm is a 1.5mm depending on the quality of calipers you're using. I have some cheap digital ones (I keep in my pit box) versus some really expensive ones I keep at home, and the measurement can vary between the two by up to 0.5mm. If you're positive on the 1.8mm you could shoot them an email, or call.

Awesome! Thanks! Yeah, I suspect my calipers aren't the most accurate! I will try some 1.5 mm and see how they work. I will report back.

I'm measuring 1.94mm, so it's probably either 2mm or 5/64". I doubt they'd use a custom size for these.

What motor or class are you running you’re car in? I’ve run everything from 4.5 to a 17.5 blinky and haven’t worn out any pins. I think I’ve worn the outdrive before the pin. There is a guy that races locally that was selling a bunch of new driveshafts that he didn’t need anymore, maybe you can get the pins out of these? ( message me privately and I’ll send you his name on here and FB). I’ve never heard of anyone having any luck replacing the pins though. They always seemed to eventually come out of the driveshaft causing a spin and more damage to the car.. Just a suggestion, either way I hope you can get it fixed.

I'm having the issue in both USGT and VTA, so 21.5 and 25.5. I think part of the issue is unplanned meetings with immovable objects! However, I will say that on one of the cars, I bought used from a very good racer who had been running it in USGT. I had to replace those bones when I got the car. That was about 7 months ago. Now I need to replace them again. It is wearing a flat spot on the front of the pins and causing a lot of slop.

I have read that off-road racers do this all of the time. There are even tools out there to do it quick and easy, but they are meant for 3mm pins, and these definitely are not 3mm.

Thanks Kevin, I had ordered some 1.5mm pins before reading this. Those did not fit. I have now ordered some 5/64 pins. I will let you know what I find out!

I started frequently slathering my bones and outdrives with 1up racing gold anti-wear grease, and I was surprised at how much it prolonged the life of pins and outdrives. Running 4.5t. https://www.1upracing.com/product/1up-racing-gold-aw-grease/

Correct....I use Amsoil 5% moly grease with the same results: no significant wear at all.......I also prefer the grease over those plastic blades that keep breaking off....
