I don’t want to start any trouble and I appreciate what Howard and the guys at ROAR are doing, but I chatted with Paul about this tonight to find out his side of the story. He mentioned that the 17.5 was submitted a while ago, I see that Howard is working on it now so that is good. But he also mentioned that the 13.5 was submitted only a few weeks after the 17.5. Hopefully this means the 13.5 is not far behind the 17.5 in the approval process.

Hi,
What timing are people running their MC3?

have you tried it with higher timing in 1/12? mine came with 46*, I couldn’t help myself but to turn it up to 48* on my first run. It ran well and cooler then the MC2. I’m still experimenting with the gearing, I have set it to 51* & and will be trying it out on Sunday. If it’s gets hot or I lose to much on coming out of corners then I will drop it by 2*.

I thought I give an update on the MC3 after spending today racing it in my 1/12. It’s runs cooler and it has more power then my MC2. The motor does not fade like the MC2. So all in all very pleased with the motor.
I started the day at 51-52* and went down to 48*.
It gave me more torq and ran cooler. I’m still figuring out the correct roll out.

On another note, I ran the MC3 this past weekend at the Hudy Race in St. Louis, and found it excellent in 17.5 TC. I started with the gearing and timing that Drew recommended from testing earlier, which was a 3.95 FDR and 45* of timing via a motor checker. I ended up running the timing a tiny bit higher at 46*, but was competitive with the R1 and Trinity Monster Max motors that others were running. Obviously periodically check your temps when initially testing gearing and timing, but I found this a strong starting point for indoor carpet in touring car.
My local track is a 28m x 16m with older grey CRC carpet, so the traction is pretty good. But im worried i cook the motor at 4FDR??

I am running the MC3 in GT12 so roll out will different to LMP. So I couldn’t make my mind up between 61.50 or 63.50 roll out.
In qualifying i finished 2nd, the person who beat me was a far better driver as she did 2 more laps then me. She was running the latest Team Power Actinum v3. It was set to 3.8amps, the person who set the motor for her said that he sets all of the motors to 3.8amps on the motorlyser (this included the Motiv MCR and the R1 wurks not sure if it’s the v16 or v21) The guy and the girl were impressed with the v3.
I tried thw motor at 52*, it was pulling 6.2amps and had a Kv of just over 3800. This was on a medium size track and the temps were around 60c. I went down to 48*, pulling around 5amps and the Kv was around 3750-3775. The motor ran cooler, had more torq and didn’t notice any less speed as the rollout was the same.
Next time I race I will be trying it at 45*, it pulls 4.4amps and Kv is around the low 3725. On my motor analyser, the Kv difference at 4.4amp vs 6.2amps is not a lot....it’s minimal.what I have noticed is that the motor really screams/revs when ever you set the timing around 44/45* and when it’s pulling 4.3amps or more. I tried the timing lower at 43* and 42* but the motor just doesn’t scream.

The 4.4amp setting seems to be the best, but you might want to start playing with gearing....Great info, and good luck.....
