Proud new owner - Motonica P81 RS3 Electron! Who else has one?
Hi guys,
Last night I picked up a Motonica P81 RS3 Electron - I was tossing between that & a Serpent 977 Nitro...all I can say is that when I saw the Motonica run, I was sold!
I absolutely appreciate todays electric RC with the Lipo technology, brushless motor & sensored ESC. This car is an absolute weapon & refined like that of an F1. The detail, anodizing & branding is just amazing IMO when I compared it to the Serpent 977e Electric (sorry Serpent owners )
The carbon chassis also appeals to me rather than the alloy chassis of the Nitro version.
Anyway, I thought I would share this with the community as there are not many Motonica owners here in Aust - Europe & Asia is where they have a good traction of owners from what I've researched.
Who else on here owns one of these beasts (nitro or electric)?
Thanks,
Marko

There are several 1/8 electric topics in this forum, the most recent is the 977E.
For Nitro you must visit the nitro onroad part of this forum.

It's almost too pretty to use. Would make a perfect shelf queen but I'm not that way inclined.
6S is ballistic ball tearing power...I can't believe how much more instantaneous power they offer over the nitro

For anyone considering this car as a purchase, check this out as I only heard of motonica only 2 days ago. I did my due diligence and realised that they won a lot of championships - this article is gold:

To win in a serpent challenge is an achievement. To win against the serpent designer michael salven as their additional team support is an even bigger achievement!

P81 rs3 V 977e
Hi Marko,
I had seen your WTB thread for the serpent 977, its quite interesting that you choose to go for the P81 RS3.
Why did you choose to go for it rather than a 977e?
Looking at the two different cars - I am surprised to see such a huge difference between layouts - they look both totally different. [I mean compared to 1/10 TC - the similarities between yoko, tamiya, VBC, Xray etc etc] excluding awesomatix, haha.
The P81 lipos are positioned ALOT wider out on the lower deck compared to the 977e.
I think I like the look of the 977e front belt arrangement better - it looks quite simple and should be efficient.
Both suspension arrangements look very similar.
The top decks again - very different.
Anyone know the minimum weight limit for these?
Marko - what are you weighing in at - with your set-up?
Cheers, Brett.

Hi Brett,
There are a few reasons why I decided to go with Motonica...firstly, the car is made in Italy whereas Serpent is now made in Taiwan. The colour scheme with blue anodizing personally appeals to me and I like how they add the logo to these alloy parts and the cv drive shafts. This car quite extreme and serious about weigh saving in that it uses 2 thin carbon fibre strips to hold the batteries in place which need to be held with double sided tape hence they have really pushed the limits to keep the weight down - I don't know the exact weight but it is lighter than the 977e.
The final clencher for me is the above news article...to take out a Serpent challenge is some feat in itself! Motonica have a real stronghold in Europe and Asia if you view their news articles here:
http://www.motonica.com/en/team
At the of the day though, it comes down to personal taste and the driver.
The way I see it, Serpent is more mainstream and using the analogy of a vehicle it could be compared to a HSV or FPV whereas the Motonica would be WRX or EVO or even the GTR (I own personally own a GTR which I like because it is uncommon).
I have been a Serpent fan since the early 90s...I do like Serpent as well
