Wow, comes with both chassis, that's impressive.

I wonder if it comes with pre-cracked c-hubs and a diff that's already leaked all its oil out inside the box?

Raman 09-05-2017 03:32 PM

Wow you're not bitter are you lol.

Breaking c hubs is not unique to this kit. At my track there are plenty X-rays, yoks, TC7 that break them, just as frequently

Dan 09-05-2017 05:20 PM

For every one broken Xray C-hub I see at the track, I see 10 broken Tamiya C-hubs. :D

Funny :)

YES: When you sneeze c-hubs brake as well as diff starts to spit around with oil.

Agree on the 418/419 C's.. the TA05 IFS though we don't have that issue , at our track.

Recently I have broken more steering uprights than C's.

Agree, since I have the XRay Front I have no broken things 😜

I like update kits :).

Should not been too expensive since it's a motor mount, upper deck, and sway bar mounts and stiffners.

Tamiya and not too expensive...ehm no...
200-250 Euros i guess...and that will be probably low priced.

All 4 lower aluminium bulkheads with integrated stabilizer ball bearing support, 4 ballbearings (630 flourine?), 4 new stabilizer mounts, new lower deck, new upper deck, center stiffener (carbon and turnbuckle version), new motor mount, updated servo mount, 5mm center shaft and new 45g battery holders (TB EVO 7 ones?).

After that upgrade 40% of your X/XWS will be new parts.

Raman 09-06-2017 12:45 PM

Yes if there is a new lower deck and bulkheads it will be $200 or so.

The description I have read so far has not stated new lower deck, only an upper deck. No mention of lower bulkheads either. They may have just made an attachment for bulkheads versus new bulkheads that incorporate the bearing holders.

Tamiya stated to bring a X/XWS to full XR specification with this upgrade kit. For me it means that all XR-parts are included.

In october we will know...

I think the thing that bothers me about the chubs and the diffs is that they have been an issue since at least the 419 and still have not been addressed in the kit. It's irritating. That being said, its really simple address both issues.

Well yes and no. They addressed the diff with the hop up metal piece a few months back.

I have in total 4 diffs that I use, depending on the track condition. None of them leak.. because I followed the advice of people on this thread and our resident Tamiya driver.

As for the c-hubs.. the ones that come with the 419x are a different material and stronger (not unbreakable) .. Tamiya never officially announced it, didn't give it a new part number... why because there are plenty of nib spares of the first gen 419 C hub that need to be sold.

So in short, if you break the ones that come with your kit, you're screwed Tamiya style for now.

I was able to fix the diffs without the optional aluminum parts. But that's not really the point. The product should work out of the box based on the instructions provided.

I just use the ta05 c hubs and they never break.

Doing assembly of X WS and here comes some remarks for those interested in:

1. Top deck has very tight clearance near spur and drive pulley (the same as in X version) -> some carbon has to be removed to avoid rubbing while flexing

2. Arms (step 14, 15) - do not use shim BB13 (0.3mm) as the arms will not move freely. I suspect that main deck has tighter clearances on suspension mounts holes then carbon one. I think that when all bed in some 0.1mm shim will be OK.

Hi guys,

Quick one:
Do you have experience with top deck cut like Donath has? Wondering if it works only on asphalt or would be a good setup for carpet as well.

Thx for sharing ;)
Marton

PS: i am not too focused on asphalt racing due to limited free time i had, hope to have some good results in coming carpet season with WS ;).
