So I finally had a failure on the super durable Xray X1 gear diff after owning it for a year. Looks like the shaft had a cycle fatigue failure. If you notice that your right rear wheel is loose or has a little camber on it, yours too could be failing like this. You can easily inspect the shaft when doing a oil change and if you see a hairline crack, its done and should be replaced. The biggest tell tale sign is that you suddenly get a loose gear strip type feeling while driving but the gears don't actually strip

Yikes, do you recall if your gear diff was a V1 or V2? I know they made some changes to the shaft between the two versions.

Version 1, but looks like the crack is caused by the stress joining the two shafts. I have a V2 on my 2nd X1, but that one is still good

The X12 video gives us an idea of the new X1. New Roche like rear pod, ride height back to pills, and maybe a new front end and side links.

Wonder when the new x1 will be out?

I would. The new X12 is a complete redesign. There is no guarantee that the X1 will get the new design this year, but it would be worth it to hold out.

The main difference is the rear wing mount for the 20. The front center pole is also changed. Yeah, seeing complete new design for the X12, I am hoping the X1 will at least get the new pivot, back to pill ride height, maybe side bars and new front suspension?

can those few things be “upgraded” on the ‘19 from the ‘20? I’ve never driven F1 and I’m doing my research on various chassis and what not.

If you already have a 19, you can add the rear wing mount. Forget the front pole because that will need new chassis plate and/or new front arms. If you haven't bought, unless it's very good deal, or else I would wait for the 2021.

Looks like the new X1’21 is using the same body profile again, not much info on it yet, but speculating that its going to use the new X12’21 center pivot

honestly, I would not sweat all that much on what year car to get. I have a 2016 chassis, and I was able to go consistently faster then the '19 and '20 chassis, simply because I was able to setup this chassis better for that specific condition. I also bought this chassis used, so there is a LOT of mileage on it, but still it works great. Unless you go Snowbirds A final top 5 or ETS top 5, there will be very small change due to the new chassis. In fact, the 2020 model with all of those setup options, just complicates the finding of the optimal setup.
