If we go back to running Schkee, TOJ and Lola T70 bodies then realism is a valid argument. Keep running Audis and Astons and they look like some barnfind a guy would run on Street Outlaws, LOL.

I blame Traxxas for this...it all started with damn short course trucks. Then onroad guys wanted cheap, easy and realistic. Then other onroad guys wanted cheap, easy, realistic and something else. Then other onroad guys who wanted cheap, easy, realistic also wanted something more specific than the previous group.

It's actually sorta irritating. Tracks have 85 cheap, easy, realistic classes and 2 classes that come from where RC racing began...and now they are bitching and wanting to take those last 2 classes and turn them into cheap, easy and realistic - because they are too hard, expensive and unrealistic...

I'm sure rubber tire 1/12 will be a totally separate class. I hope they make a realistic tire size so we don't have to buy new rear pods or stack 9 mm tall spacers. 45 mm max.
They won't be re-using F1 tire molds this time.

Cool

Anyone here remember when roar used to mandate "realistic" body shells in 1/12 scale ?

Digression alert: Yes, and a driver figure, too. And I liked it! If I recall correctly, weren't there some concourse competitions were one had to provide photos of the actual vehicle modeled, like the British used to do with slot cars? (Not that I could ever win one, of course.)

I remember that all open cockpit bodies had to have a driver. Also there was a loose your head your dead clause.

I don't race because I want to enter concourse competitions.

Last I checked a concourse wasn't part of Le Mans, Sebring or Daytona. It is however part of historic events - so maybe we can create another class for this sort of thing?

We can also go back to running brushed motors/NiCD batteries in them.

Don't confuse "scale modeling" with "racing".

Dave, those Tamiya bodies are pretty cool. I have been trying to source that Esso Ultron sticker sheet. Running Pro1 stripes under those things may look funny though.

Does that meet your criteria Al Dente?
